Adoption News
Featured Dog:
Vader
Vader is a uniquely handsome husky/pit mix who is approximately 3 years old. He is a friendly, very energetic boy. He loves everyone but because of his size and exuberance, older children would be best for him. Vader does like other dogs but plays hard. Vader does need work walking on a leash but he does know some basic commands. His new owners should be active and have room for Vader to run and play. Vader loves to play ball or chase a frisbee. If you are interested in Vader, please fill out our online application or stop in during open hours, Wednesdays 6-8pm or Saturdays 12-3pm.
Featured Cat:
Creamsicle
Creamsicle is a happy go lucky young male cat who likes to voice his affection. He had a hard knock life on the streets his first few months, but now he is very playful and loves to be held. If you adopt Creamsicle, he will be your new buddy and will give you lots of cuddles. Come meet Creamsicle any Saturday afternoon or Wednesday evening and see for yourself.

Just as fast as she came in, Luna (left) is out! She will have a lovely family and a Boston Terrier / Cattle Dog mix brother named Buddy. She was very happy and perked up right away when they came to see her.

Molson has been adopted. There's also a mom and doggie brother waiting at home.

Peedie leaves PetSmart for a new life with this young woman.

Isaac (left) has gone home with his new sister Leia (as in princess).

Barney is adopted! He joins a mom and a dad and three doggy friends in his new home.

Miss Chloe has left the building to be endlessly spoiled by her new mama. Happy life, girl.
Jack Sparrow was quickly adopted by volunteer Joan and her husband.

Liberty has left the building. They were both way too excited to sit still for a picture.

Volunteer Susan hands Preston over to his new family. He'll be joining big brother Martin and sister Denise in an oceanfront condo in South Carolina. Livin' the life!

Bow's new mom has been anxiously waiting for him to be ready for adoption. She is looking forward to giving Bow long walks, lots of play time, and trips to the family camp in North East. It was love at first sight for both of them!

And then there were none. Greg, the last Brady Bunch puppy, left for his furever home with this wonderful family and big sister. Looks like a perfect fit!

Philip and Lillian will be renamed William and Lucy as they go to live with this nice family in Niagara Falls. The kids were very well behaved and very happy to have two pups to play with now.

Sweet Naomi has left to live with Bessie (former LHS kitty) and her new humans who loved her from the first look.

Little Nemo has left with his family to start his new life!

This sweet family takes home eight-year-old CiCi

Events and Visits

Yard Sale Brings in the Crowds
The newly revamped Yard Sale at the Fairgrounds last month was a huge success thanks to an army of volunteers who worked long days all week getting ready and running the sale. And thanks to the members of the community who donated goods and then shopped their hearts out.

Tandem Bike Winner

Congratulations to Marie Cameron, the winner of the Bicycle Built for Two Raffle.

St. Columban's Friends Visit
St.  Columban’s folks came to visit in late August and brought a huge donation of paper towels, bleach, cleaner, blankets and more. Much appreciated!

LHS at Fredonia Farm Festival
Lots of visitors to the Fredonia Farm Festival stopped by the new LHS tent on August 26, 27, and 28 to browse the large selection of goodies from our Cat's Meow Boutique. Volunteer Lynn LaMattina headed up the event with help from Bob Ehrheart and Bruce Ford, as well as Nancy Phillips, Jeannine DeGolier, Nancy Letersky, Deb Bleck, Barb Victor, and Marion Merlino.

Volunteer Spotlight - Maybe You?
Volunteers are needed at Lakeshore Humane Society in Dunkirk. If you are at least 18 years old (16-18yrs with a parent) and love dogs, please consider joining our LHS team for at least one 2 to 3 hour shift a week either mornings or afternoons. Required training is provided. Some of the tasks at the Adoption Center include feeding the dogs, cleaning the kennels, washing dog dishes, bathing the dogs, grooming, exercising the dogs in the outside kennels, walking the dogs, administering medications, laundry and more. You will work alongside other volunteers on your shift. Also, participation in events and fundraising within our community is available.

If you are looking for a way to give back while meeting new people and love interacting with dogs, fill out a
Volunteer Application online.

Or stop in for a tour during Open Adoption Hours and fill out an application there. Wednesdays 6 - 8 pm and Saturdays 12 noon - 3pm. You will love this exciting opportunity. Please share!
From One of Our Dog Volunteers:
"One of the best things I ever did. I wish I had done it sooner. I thought I would be sad or want to adopt every one but it's so fulfilling and not like I thought. Watching families give these babies a new life is a beautiful thing!" - Brenda
