Ridge to Reef Design Sprint Kick OffLast week the MRV Collective participated in the kick off of a design sprint together with Costa Rica Regenerativa, Connect Ocean, and UCI, a former government minister, technologists, entrepreneurs, soil scientists, biologists, and data experts. The diverse collection of stakeholders represented a ‘Ridge to Reef’ holistic approach that is unique and revealed many interconnected MRV opportunities. Rapid Collaboration to Meet a Changing World As attention and resources available for biodiversity and climate related efforts continue to trend upwards, collaboration and shared understanding remain a clear challenge. The interdisciplinary nature of biodiversity conservation and regeneration will require engineers, technical specialists, and of course the finance sector to listen and learn — MRV is vital to demonstrate progress. |

How to foster data trust with indigenous communities?Indigenous communities are stewards of 80% of the world’s biodiversity yet account for only 6% of the global population with over 4000 languages represented. Global consensus is growing that conservation is best practiced by local and Indigenous peoples which was recognized at COP26 last year. However protected areas have a history of colonialism, violence, and exploitation — can data play a key role in changing the narrative and fostering trust? Check out the Indigenous Data Sovereignty initiative that seeks to shape new data principles. |
