Anime Night Kickoff @ Nakayoshi Discord

When: September 8 from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Where: Nakayoshi Discord

Love anime? Want to watch anime? Have opinions about anime? Join Nakayoshi online on Thursday, September 8th to kick off a series of weekly anime nights! At this inaugural event, we'll watch the first episode of each of four different shows as a group, and then vote on which to watch weekly on Thursdays from here on. Keep an eye out for the recurring event for anime nights once we've selected a show!
The shows up for consideration are:
--- Noragami: A low-level god strives to become rich and famous by doing odd jobs and slaying monsters in this urban fantasy.
--- Barakamon: A charming slice of life about a frustrated professional calligrapher who's sent to the remote Gotou Islands to get his groove back.
--- Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun: Appearances are deceiving in this comedy about a group of offbeat friends working together to produce shoujo manga.
--- Yuru-Camp: A laid-back "iyashikei" show about a group of girls united by their love of camping and hiking in scenic locales.

The event will be hosted using Discord. If you haven't joined the Nakayoshi Discord server yet, you can use this invite link to do so: https://discord.com/invite/ZsMBcdwC8f
You can contact us on the Discord server with any questions, or reach out to nakayoshi.ncwnp@gmail.com.

Volunteering @ JCCCNC Tabemasho Fundraiser

When: September 17 12:30 PM to 7:00 PM
Where: Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California (JCCCNC)

We have volunteer opportunity for Saturday, September 17, 2022! The JCCCNC is having their Tabemasho fundraiser event and they're looking for Nakayoshi's help. We will be helping out with the shave ice booth primarily! Be aware that this is an all-day event (12:30pm-7:00pm).

See the information from the Center below:
After a two year hiatus due to the pandemic, we’re excited to announce we’re resuming our annual Tabemasho gala fundraiser in-person at the Center on Saturday, September 17, 2022! Marking the 10th anniversary of holding Tabemasho, this year we’re featuring dishes served up by our partnering local restaurants and chefs and will also be introducing delicacies from the town of Oshu, Iwate Prefecture in Japan, famous for their premium sake and Maesawa beef! In order to make this year’s dinner and silent auction a success to support the Center’s staff and programs in Japantown, we could use as much help from the community as we can get!
If you are available to help, please fill out the online volunteer registration form at: http://bit.ly/2022tabemashovolunteer
Be sure to mark your group affiliation as "Nakayoshi"!

VOLUNTEER / NETWORK / PROJECTS

Nakayoshi Professional Resources Network

Nakayoshi wants to build a network of people who are willing and able to donate their unique skills for the Japantown community!

Why do we want to do this?

We've found that members of Nakayoshi, as well as those in the wider Japantown community, have an extensive variety of skill sets--whether it's art, graphic design, fundraising, grant writing, copy editing, project management, web development, etc. We'd like to gather together willing volunteers and help direct them to opportunities in the Japantown community that best suit their needs.

How does this work and what is the time commitment?

Nakayoshi will help connect the need and the resources, and provide the introductions accordingly. From there, expectations will be established to identify the scoped work. Volunteers are expected to complete the work as agreed upon.

What can I get out of it?

If you're just starting off in your career, joining the network is a good way to develop your skills that will have a tangible effect in the community. Even if you are well established in your career, volunteers can develop new relationships and understanding of the Japantown community!

I have skills to share!
