Congratulations to the Treasure Trove at Gingin for being nominated in the Western Australian Community Achievement Awards, in the Woolworths community group of the year category.
The Western Australian Community Achievement Awards aim to encourage, acknowledge and reward the valuable contributions individuals, communities and businesses are making throughout regional and rural Western Australia. The awards recognise and pay tribute to their achievements, which contribute to making regional Western Australia a better community.
Treasure Trove is an Op Shop but is also a social hub for residents and visitors and they are a valuable asset to the community. The Shire wishes The Treasure Trove the best of luck in the awards. Judging takes place 7 September 2022 and will be announced 21 October 2022.

Pulse of the Wheatbelt Survey
Wheatbelt residents have the opportunity to have their voice heard - this survey is brought to you by Holyoake. This is an anonymous digital survey for all Wheatbelt residents 18+ years. You will also go in the draw to win a $300 RedBallon Experience Voucher.
If you would like to have input into health service planning, education and training opportunities and placed based community safety initiatives, please complete the ‘Pulse of the Wheatbelt’ Survey by scanning the QR code below or visiting Mentimetre and entering the code provided. TLC For Kids
Since 1998, TLC for Kids has given relief and much-needed distraction to sick children and their families during stressful and traumatic situations. In hospitals across Australia, their services have been used over 13.1 million times and counting.
Their critical support programs are now being used over 1 million times per year, and they are constantly working towards doing more and reaching more children and families in need.

Community Citizen of the year Awards
The Shire of Gingin is seeking nominations for community members who have stepped up and performed admirably within our community over the past 12 months.
It could be someone who is well known for their community spirit and support or someone who is out there quietly serving the community in the background.
We encourage the community to really have a think about these very deserving recipients. In big or small ways – how did they make our community a better place this year?
There are four award categories that you may nominate a community member or group/event within. They include:
COMMUNITY CITIZEN OF THE YEAR
A person you believe has delivered outstanding service to his or her community
COMMUNITY CITIZEN OF THE YEAR (YOUTH)
Under 25 as of 26 January 2023 - a young person you believe has delivered outstanding service to his or her community
COMMUNITY CITIZEN OF THE YEAR (SENIOR)
Over 65 as of 26 January 2023 - an older person you believe has delivered outstanding service to his or her community
ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP (GROUP OR EVENT)
A group doing outstanding work or for an event staged in the community during the past year
Nominations close 31 October 2022, simply fill in the online form found on the Community Citizen of the Year Awards website.

Work Health & Safety Laws Include Volunteers
New work health and safety laws came into effect on 31 March 2022 and now recognise the role of volunteers and their right to be safe.
WorkSafe Western Australia has developed a guide on how the new laws apply to organisations which engage volunteers. It outlines the primary duty that organisations have to workers and volunteers and how to meet this duty.

Negligence, accidents and incidents
Negligence - When providing services to your clients or the public, your community organisation needs to consider its duty of care, and the standard of care it is required to meet. A community organisation may be liable (legally responsible) for a breach of a duty of care, which results in damage (for example, injury, property damage or financial loss) to a person who the organisation owes a duty. Accidents & Incidents - are sometimes unavoidable (but sometimes they could have been avoided if a proper risk assessment had been done. The Power of Volunteering
Volunteering WA provides leadership and support to volunteer-involving organisations throughout the State. Becoming a member gives you access to a broad range of valuable services and benefits for you and your organisation. However, it's more than this... it’s about you, me and many others, recognising the essential contribution of volunteers and volunteering in our communities, as well as our organisations, and working together to lead, advance and celebrate volunteering in WA.

Expressions Of Interest Now Open For The 2022/23 Volunteer Grants
Federal Member for Durack, Melissa Price, encourages community organisations across the Durack electorate to submit an expression of interest for the 2022/23 Volunteer Grants Program.
Grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 are available to help community organisations support the efforts of Durack’s volunteers. Grant funding can only be used for eligible activities or items such as volunteer training, the purchase of small equipment to assist volunteers, fuel and transport costs, background checks, implementing coronavirus safety practices and more.
Expression of Interest forms are now available here - complete and return to the office ( Melissa Price MP, 2B/209 Foreshore Drive, Geraldton WA 6503 or by emailing to melissa.price.mp@aph.gov.au. Closing date for the expression of interest forms will be 5pm Friday 16 September 2022. Successful expressions of interest will be nominated to formally apply for funding, with formal applications closing on 5 December 2022, 5pm (AEDT).

Healthy Sports Program
Sport clubs and associations can apply for funding of up to $4,000 to implement healthy eating initiatives, eg, promoting healthy snacks and drinks pre, during and post-game, and improving canteen/kiosk facilities to provide healthier options.
|
|
|
|
Clubs that apply for funding before the 15 September 2022 will go in the running to win a $500 sports equipment voucher. View T&C’s.

Drug Aware YCulture Regional
Are you aged 12-26 and living in regional WA? Do you want to develop your creative skills and gain experience by running an arts project in your community? Drug Aware YCulture Regional offers grants for arts projects run by young people, for young people, see the link below for further details. Applications close 30 November 2022.

Club Night Lights Program
This program aims to provide financial assistance to community groups and local governments to develop sports floodlighting infrastructure. It also aims to maintain or increase participation in sport and recreation with an emphasis on physical activity, through rational development of good quality, well-designed and well-utilised facilities. Applications close 30 September 2022.

Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF)
This program seeks to provide Western Australian Government financial assistance to community groups and local governments to develop basic infrastructure for sport and recreation. It aims to maintain or increase participation in sport and recreation, with an emphasis on physical activity, through development of sustainable, good quality, well-designed and well-utilized facilities. There are three types of grants available: Small Grants, Annual Grants and Forward Planning Grants. Applications close 30 September 2022.

Harmony Week 2023 Grants
The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) is offering grants of $2,000 to support community-led activities promoting and celebrating multiculturalism in Western Australia for inclusion in its Harmony Week 2023 campaign. Activities should involve:
- Culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) communities in their coordination and be open to participation from the broader community.
- Activities with a focus on culture and arts and sport and active recreation are encouraged in this funding round.
- Culture and arts activities are those that involve a professional artist or arts practitioner working with the community to design and deliver the activity.
- Sport and active recreation activities are those that involve the community participating in a primary activity requiring physical exertion and/or physical skill.
