Undergraduate classes are in session on Labor Day

Undergraduate classes will be held on Labor Day (Monday, Sept. 5); it is a staff holiday. Graduate and professional students should consult the academic calendar for their school or program for details.

If you have a positive COVID test, you must isolate; reminder to mask days 6-10

If you have a positive test, report your positive result to the Student Health Service by emailing wfucovid@wfu.edu. You must isolate yourself from others and only leave your isolation location to use community restrooms (where applicable), to meet with health care providers, and to get food; in those moments, you must be masked. Students who test positive may not attend classes, labs, meetings, events, etc. in person, and they should not have visitors in their room during the isolation period. Learn more about isolation in place in the residence halls (including how to get meals), and information for roommates. And a reminder that after your 5 days of isolation, you must wear a mask for 5 additional days.

Football game information for opening night at Truist Field

Tonight is the first home football game of the year. Be sure you are aware of the clear bag policy, the free DEACTOWN student tailgate, Uber/Lyft instructions, and more; see details. A free Gameday Shuttle will run continuously beginning three hours before kickoff and one hour after the game concludes. Campus pick up and drop location is located in lot P, directly behind Wait Chapel. The pickup and drop off location at Truist Field is located behind the Wake Forest indoor tennis center on Shorefair Drive.

Reschedule of Fall Involvement Fair, Sept. 6

The Fall Involvement Fair has been rescheduled for this coming Tuesday (Sept. 6) at 3:30 p.m. on Poteat Field. Get involved with some of our 200-plus student organizations!

Opening of Davis Field Road, Sept. 6

The new Wake Forest Road extension through Davis Field will be opened for use beginning Tuesday, Sept. 6. Please be aware of new traffic patterns: 4-way stops with pedestrian crosswalks at the Scales/Lower Davis Field intersection and at the Lot B intersection. Construction will continue for an additional two weeks on Lower Davis Field, and one of the sidewalks along the new road will remain closed. Pedestrians are encouraged to cross the road safely at the new crosswalks and walk only on the open sidewalks.

OCCE Day of Service, Sept. 9

The Office of Civic and Community Engagement (OCCE) is hosting a Day of Service on Friday, Sept. 9 from 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Please RSVP to participate at GivePulse. All students who RSVP will receive a link to sign up for the service placement of their choice.

Power Up: Super (Power) Skills for Your Life + Career

Power Skills are the key skills that give you the power to communicate, lead, and collaborate more effectively, both in college and once you enter the world of work. Each month this fall, the Mentoring Resource Center will be sharing tips and resources for how students can develop their CORE Four Mentoring Power Skills and put them into practice. If you haven’t already, create your Handshake profile in order to receive the OPCD’s weekly emails, from which you can learn about Power Skills plus and get access to webinars, action items, best practice guides, and other campus resources.

Eco-Justice Graduate Cohort (for graduate and professional school students)

How can we live good, rich lives — personally and professionally — in the face of the climate crisis and its attendant environmental injustices? The cohort will explore that question by discussing the feminist climate anthology All We Can Save and by interviewing North Carolina environmental justice leaders. Attending 4 sessions gives participants access to a community environmental justice mini-grant of up to $1,000. See more details here or email Elizabeth Whiting Pierce (piercee@gmail.com). Note: this opportunity is open to graduate and professional school students only.

ICYMI (In Case You Missed It):

  • Avoid student loan forgiveness scams — After the recent announcement regarding student loan forgiveness, there have been a number of phishing attempts from scammers promising early and special access or guaranteed eligibility for student loan forgiveness. Learn how to avoid this malicious activity.
  • Dr. Warrenetta Mann appointed Assistant Vice President for Health and Wellbeing — Following a national search, Dr. Warrenetta Mann has been appointed assistant vice president for health and wellbeing within the Division of Campus Life, effective September 15. Dr. Mann will lead health and wellbeing initiatives and oversee the University Counseling Center (which includes the Safe Office), Student Health Service, and the Office of Wellbeing. Dr. Mann will continue as the UCC Director until a national search is completed and a new director is named later this fall.
