SURPRISE!!! [This is a long read but it is a good read, I promise!]

The past few days have been a whirlwind to say the least. In fact, had you told me one week ago that I would be writing this update, I would not have believed you! To be honest, and as usual, I am not quite sure how to put all of my thoughts into writing!

While I feel a strong call to Cambodia, I have also come to recognize that the Lord has placed the country of South Korea on my heart as well. Over the past few years, I have kept South Korea at the back of my mind and given my all to my ministry here in Poipet. This season, though, I have been given the opportunity to go to South Korea!

If you’re surprised by this news, don’t worry, so am I! Three days ago my base director presented me with the opportunity to go and intern at the YWAM location in Busan, South Korea. Specifically, I have been invited to join in with their pioneering Bible school in order to learn more about pioneering Bible schools here in Cambodia.

With only approximately 30% of the Cambodian population graduating high school, there is a desperate need for Bible schools that are able to walk with students who have weaker academic backgrounds. This is a challenge we face annually in our BCC. While about half of our Khmer students have finished high school, the other half are students who dropped out of school between 4th and 8th grade. As you can imagine, joining in with a college-level academic program is no small mountain to climb for these students.

To meet this apparent need in developing nations, YWAM has developed a different kind of Bible school known as the Discipleship Bible School (or DBS). This school, similar to BCC, aims to equip students with an accurate understanding of the Bible through a historical lens. However, this school is less academically intense than BCC and focuses on using the Bible as a tool for discipleship and evangelism. While BCC focuses on one book per week, DBS focuses on one section of the Bible each week (Pentatuech, OT History, Poetry / Wisdom, Minor Prophets, Major Prophets, Gospel, NT History, Epistles, and Apocalyptic Literature). Both schools enable the students to read all 66 Books of the Bible, but DBS equips students with a broader lens than BCC.

I truly believe that this school is the perfect school to equip Cambodians to effectively and accurately teach the Word of God. I want to bring this incredible program to Cambodia. In order to run this school, I need to have first gone through it myself. Since I have studied BCC already, I am able to staff DBS. My goal is to go to South Korea to walk alongside the school leader to gain all of the resources, knowledge, and guidance that I can in order to pioneer this school here in Cambodia.

The program is set to begin on September 26 - just three days after the Bible school I am currently leading is scheduled to graduate. This is sudden, but I can tangibly feel the Lord guiding me to do this.

In order for this to happen, in order for more Cambodians to be equipped to teach the Bible to this nation, I need your help. Being so sudden, I did not have a proper chance to fundraise for this opportunity. With only 23 days until I need to leave Cambodia, I need to raise $5,000. Yes, you read that right - Five Thousand Dollars. This number is not small, but it is the amount I need for flights, visa, rent, food, school fees, and other expenses over the next three months. Korea is much more expensive than Cambodia, so my current monthly support is not enough to cover my needs this next season.

If you would like to partner with me in this incredible opportunity, please let me know!
