Dear Friends,

As we approach the traditional end of summer this weekend, I wish you and your family a safe and happy Labor Day. As a practicing Neurosurgeon, I'd like to remind you all that my fellow doctors and  I see far too many fractures and injuries related to excessive alcohol use at this time of year. By all means enjoy and celebrate, but also remember that over indulging puts you and your family at risk.

Do you know who I don't want to see this coming weekend while I'm on call? You.

New / Old Video on YouTube - Finding The Switch

Thank you to all of you who took the time to respond to the past month's questions about what you would like to see more of in the Newsletter. One of the things that came up was a request from some of you to see more material about coaching and motivation.

This video from 2013 has just been restored to enhance color and sharpness. The tools that allow us to compete haven't changed over the years, and the core principles that I teach and coach haven't changed either. (even if the quality of Internet video has changed immensely.)

Click the Image below to watch the presentation on YouTube. I share some personal stories from my own wrestling career. I hope you find  it useful, and after you've watched please don't forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel.

Past and Upcoming Events

Last weekend, I was honored to deliver a talk to a group of special operations servicemen and servicewomen.

The title of the talk was "Terrible Knowledge". If anyone has a familiarity with terrible knowledge, it is the active and veteran members of our armed services. While studying and researching the materials in preparation for the talk, I came across this quote from Ortega y Gasset. The quote helped form some of the core ideas that I shared with this group.

Another group that must face "Terrible Knowledge" are the men and women of law enforcement. On September 13th I will be delivering a similar talk to the New Jersey State Troopers Resiliency Team. It’s been a difficult talk to create but it has also been extremely rewarding and I hope and believe that it will be a significant contribution.

Although neither of these talks is likely to become publicly available, I do hope to share the talk with the public in the near future if there is an interest in the topic.

If you would like to learn more about having me speak to your group or at your event, please follow this link.

NeuroRounds XVI   (Session 16 on September 6th)

It seems like just yesterday that we began #NeuroRounds and yet we've advanced to using Roman Numerals like the Super Bowl. Over the past months we've welcomed guest faculty and nationally recognized academics to join us. Current med students have shared their experiences and advice, and we've built a community.

It's fair to say that we're proud of what's been accomplished so far and we have big plans for further development. Be a part of it.

#NeuroRounds is designed as a 100% interactive and LIVE experience to mimic the actual experience of neurosurgical rounds. Participants review case histories, see imaging, ask and are asked questions.

Join us for this September 6th Zoom event.
