Regulatory Updates & Initiatives

Here are some recent developments and publications:
- Canadian securities regulators now expect commitments from crypto trading platforms that are pursuing registration. The OSC published the first pre-registration undertakings, filed by Coinsquare Capital Markets Ltd. and Crypto.com. Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) members are in discussions with other crypto trading platforms about providing pre-registration undertakings.
- The CSA issued a warning about suspicious emails. CSA has been monitoring its systems for unusual activities after several market participants received e-mails that purport to come from CSA members’ staff.
- OSC announced three new members of its independent Investor Advisory Panel (IAP) following a public application process.
- The CSA will host a virtual roundtable on the proposed derivatives business conduct rule, the CSA’s next step towards modernizing the regulatory framework for the over-the-counter derivatives market in Canada.
- The International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) finds education on sustainable finance helps protect investors against fraud and greenwashing in new
a report.
