Assalamu alaykum,

We have 7 updates to share with you in today's newsletter:

(1) Iqraa School: Weekend Arabic & Islamic studies program is now back and open for registration.

(2) Teen Girls Picnic: we are pleased to host an afternoon of games and a picnic for our teen sisters!

(3) Qur'an for Women: our weekly program on Wednesday mornings is now accepting new students to join

(4) Classical Arabic for Adults: we are accepting new students for our next semester of Classical Arabic class for adults.

(5) 40 Hadiths Comprehension Competition: we will be holding a competition on the understanding of the 40 hadith compiled by Imam An-Nawawi, with prizes totalling $1000 to be won!

(6) Albayan Qur'an School: our Qur'an school has opened registration for children 6 - 14 (Tuesdays and Thursdays).

(7) Parenting in Ottawa Drop-in: simply drop in and receive support from a Public Health Nurse experienced with infant care at the AMA Community Centre.

#1. Iqraa School Barrhaven

Do you know that one of the benefits of learning Qur’an is that on the Day of Resurrection, a crown of such brilliance will be placed on the head of the parents. This is a reward for the one who has learned the Qur’an and practiced its teachings. The beauty of this crown is that its glitter will eclipse the brightness of the sun that enters your houses!

Iqraa Barrhaven continues to offer Islamic studies and Qur’an recitation virtually to our lovely students! Classes are small-scale to encourage students to memorize better.  We have limited spots remaining. Please contact us or register online. 

Location: This year the classes will be held virtually through Google Meet

Arabic: Saturday from 9:30 AM to 12:00 noon for Arabic program, run directly under the Education Permenante languages program of the CECCE. It will include an interactive activity. The fee for this portion is $10 for the full-year.

Islamic Studies: Saturday from 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM for Islamic Studies and Qur'an memorization, run directly under AMA. The fee for this portion is $125 per student for the full-year.

#2. Teen Girls Picnic
The summer may be coming to an end but for our teen sisters we have one more exciting event for you!

We are pleased to host a teen girls picnic at Fletcher Wildlife Garden. This event is open to all sisters 14+.

Here are the details:

Date: Friday, September 2

Time: 2:30 - 5:30 PM

Location: Fletcher Wildlife Garden (865 Prince of Wales Drive)

Age: Sisters 14+

Price: $5 per person

Get ready for an afternoon of games, nature-inspired activities and a picnic lunch.

#3. Sister's Wednesday Qur'an Classes
This free program is for women who would like to memorize Qur’an.
There will be levels and new students will be tested to see which level they can join. Although the program is free the spots are limited.

Here are the details:

Date: Wednesdays from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Instructor: Sr. Zienab

Location: classes will be held through Zoom and the access details will be shared to you via email

#4. Classical Arabic For Adults Fall 2022

We are proud to announce that the Arabic Program is continuing in Fall 2022!

This course will give you basic foundation for understanding classical Arabic and is divided into multiple parts, beginning with Level 1 for Beginners.

This course will be taught by none other than Shaykh Munir Shalghum.

To benefit from this course you will need to:

  • Know the Arabic alphabet
  • Be committed to attending the class each and every week
  • Have a goal for wanting to understand the Qur'an without needing an English translation

You do not need to know how to speak Arabic to enroll in this course. Our teaching method will benefit you even if you cannot speak Arabic. This course is beginner-friendly.

Here are the details for the upcoming Fall 2022 semester:

Date: Class begins on September 12 (Monday).

Time for Level 1: 6:00 - 7:00 PM each Monday and Friday

Time for Level 4: 6:00 - 7:00 PM each Wednesday, 7:00 - 8:00 PM Fridays

Time for Level 7: 7:00 - 8:00 PM each Monday & Wednesday

Time for Level 8: 8:00 - 9:00 PM each Monday & Wednesday

Location: Virtual via Zoom

Cost: $350 for the term (September to January)

#5. 40 Hadith Comprehension Competition
We are excited to announce the 40 Hadiths of Imam An-Nawawi Comprehension Competition!

The competition will be an English online test at the comfort of your own home and will only cover the content of Sheikh Abdirahman Hussein's four classes on the 40 Hadiths of Imam An-Nawawi hosted by AMA Centre.

Recordings of the lectures will be posted shortly on AMA’s YouTube channel  so everyone can participate even if they missed any classes.

We highly encourage you participate to better connect with these life changing hadiths.

Location: Online via Zoom

Age / Gender: Open to brothers and sisters of all ages

$1000 in prizes to be won! Youth (17 and under) are especially encouraged to join and will have their own separate prize pool from the general public.

#6A. Al bayan School 1 for Boys & Girls (Tuesdays & Thursdays)

Here are the details for our Albayan Qur'an school for the upcoming school year:

Dates: Tuesdays and Thursdays starting from September 13 - June 22

Time: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Ages: 6 – 14 

Location: AMA Community Centre (1216 Hunt Club Rd., Ottawa, ON)

Cost: $350 per child. Payments can be made in installments with $175 in September and $175 in January.

**Please be advised that registration is not complete until payment is received.

Registration: For the student to ensure a place in class, please send an e-transfer to albayan@mymasjid.ca with the Guardian’s name & child’s name included in the note.

#6B. Al Bayan School 2

Whether you are just starting to learn Qur’an for the first time or you are an advanced student, we will help you on your journey to completing the memorization of the entire Qur’an.

Dates: Sundays starting from Sept. 12 – June 26

Time: 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Location: AMA Community Centre (1216 Hunt Club Rd., Ottawa, ON)

Cost: $200 per child for the whole year (includes the course book).

Student Download: Parents are requested to download the Bidayah book for free by clicking here.
 

Levels: 

  • Level 1/2 for Beginners
  • Level 3 for Intermediate
  • Level 4/5 for the last 5 Juz
  • Level 6 for Juz Amma to Ahqaf

There is also a new halaqa for university students.

#7. Parenting in Ottawa Drop-in
Ottawa Public Health is offering in-person support with a Public Health Nurse experienced with infant care and feeding. No appointment is necessary, simply drop-in during the clinic hours.
