Let Your Name Stand: Alberta Canola Directors Needed for 4 Regions

Each year, Alberta Canola has a call for nominations for farmers to serve on the board of directors in 4 of Alberta Canola's 12 regions.

This year nominations are needed in regions 1, 4, 7, and 10. All four current directors have completed their two terms of eligibility and will be retiring from the board following the Annual General Meeting in January 2023.

If you or your farm operation has paid a check off to the Alberta Canola Producers Commission for canola grown in one of these regions since August 1, 2020 you are eligible to be a director.

Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (SCAP)

Team Alberta Crops is pleased with the preliminary agreement reached for the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (SCAP). SCAP includes the most critical set of programs to help Canadian farmers remain competitive and feed the world.

We remain concerned about the planned introduction of environmental requirements into the business risk management programs and will closely monitor how they might impact farmers’ goals of sustainable food production. The overall increase in funding and ongoing support for existing programs was a positive outcome from the agreement.

A Fond Farewell to Alberta Canola Team Members

Alberta Canola says farewell to two of our contract employees this week.
Aymie Haslam started with Alberta Canola in January of 2020 and completed an 8-month term as a Policy Intern.

When she completed her undergrad at Mount Royal University she returned to work for us as a Policy Analyst to support the Government and Industry Affairs Committee with its active policy files and advocacy initiatives.

The directors and staff enjoyed Aymie’s enthusiasm and curiosity of the agriculture industry and we wish her all the best in her future endeavours.

Read Aymie's final Temperature Check for an update on what’s heating up in the policy world of carbon.

Kristen Longson joined the Alberta Canola team this summer as a Research Administrative Assistant. She has returned to the University of Alberta this fall for her third year where she is working towards obtaining her degree in Agriculture with a major in Crop Sciences.

Kristen’s hardworking and outgoing personality, along with her passion for the agriculture industry, made her an invaluable teammate. She was always excited to take on new tasks and opportunities to advance her knowledge.

The directors and staff are excited for Kristen's future in the agriculture industry.
