As part of a one-month artist in residency program at The Lab, Colombo-Canadian Artists Juan Pablo Hernández Gutiérrez is opening his studio to the public. Feel free to join us on Saturday, August 27th, from 7 pm to 10 pm at Calle Venustiano Carranza #28, Col. Centro Histórico, Mexico City.

Part of the pieces and processes that the artist has developed during residency play with the political value of the poor image, using the aesthetics and the materiality of a bootleg object to hack the spatial devices where soccer is distributed and played. “Hacking the device to hack the binary logic of the institution.”

In his work, Juan Pablo is interested in questioning the hegemony of a soccer legacy, the ritual as an ideology that perpetuates unbalanced power relationships (such as nationalistic ideologies via teaming in soccer) and the copyright as the legit and unique space for the distribution and circulation of art and art practices.

Big Thanks to @radio28cs for the complicity and shared studio space, and @lafifaenvacaciones for joining the conversation in Pablo's production.
