Welcome back from President Wente

Welcome to the Fall 2022 semester! It’s going to be a great year. To our first-year students, welcome to the Demon Deacon family. You made it! To my “fellow” sophomores — this is the year we deepen our connection to this incredible community. I can’t wait to get started and I bet you feel the same way. To our juniors, seniors, professional and graduate students — this is your time to shine, and we’ll be with you every step of the way. As your semester gets underway, I wish you my very best. Go Deacs!

More from the first week:

Safety and security resources for the campus community

As Wake Forest begins the new academic year, Chief of Police Regina Lawson shared information about University resources related to safety and security, including Wake Alert, LiveSafe, university shuttles, University Police, and other support services.

If you have a positive COVID test

Isolate yourself from others and report your positive result to the Student Health Service by emailing wfucovid@wfu.edu. Learn more about isolation in place in the residence halls (including how to get meals), and information for roommates.

WFU Night at the Dash, Aug. 26

Join us for Wake Forest Night at the Dash tomorrow (Friday, Aug. 26) for fun, food and fireworks! The first 100 students who register will receive a free ticket to the game, meal voucher, and free shuttle transportation. Details and registration on The Link.

Campus Life Cookout with Dr. Shea, Aug. 29

All students are invited to a free cookout on Manchester Plaza with Dr. Shea Kidd Brown, Vice President for Campus Life on Aug. 29. Kick off your second week with food, games and music! Details on The Link.

Wellbeing Coaching is available

The Office of Wellbeing is now enrolling for our Wellbeing Coaching program, which is free for students! Clients will work one-on-one with a certified coach to identify their individual health and wellbeing goals, and then co-create a plan to achieve those goals and make them stick. Goals can vary widely and can be related to anything from sleep to stress management to finances. Find out more and register.

Monkeypox update

As colleges and universities around the country begin the fall semester, several have already reported confirmed cases of monkeypox. Wake Forest continues to work closely with local health officials to monitor local conditions and prepare for cases of monkeypox in our community.

In the event of a positive case among faculty, staff or students, county health officials will conduct contact tracing and notify individuals potentially exposed to the virus through close contact (direct physical contact with the infectious rash). Wake Forest will communicate by email with the entire University if advised by county health officials that further guidance or notification is necessary to mitigate the risk of infection among our community.

Please familiarize yourself with the Wake Forest website providing information and resources related to monkeypox.
