Kia ora, <<First Name>>

It’s been a while (14 months, to be exact) but we’re back with a new issue of Tūmanako, your favourite Diocese of Palmerston North | Te Rohe Pīhopa o te Papaioea update!

A lot has happened in the past year, the main event being Synod 2021-2023, which drew participants from all over the motu. In this update you’ll find information on the National Synod Synthesis, along with a letter from Cardinal John Dew plus the first in a series of videos that stemmed from our Diocesan Synthesis.

You can also find resources for Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, Social Justice Week, and the upcoming World Youth Day Pilgrimage to Portugal next year.

Enjoy!

Our Synodal Journey - What’s next?

This series of videos aims to explore ‘where to from here’ and captures some of the key themes that emerged in the synodal process in the Diocese of Palmerston North.

The first in this series focuses on one of the strongest messages received, that ‘things need to change’. Keep an eye out for further videos which will be posted over the coming weeks.

Cardinal John has also recently expressed his hopes for the use of the Spiritual Conversation method as we continue to explore what synodality means for us.

Te Wiki o te Whai Tika | Social Justice Week 2022

This year Social Justice Week runs from 4 to 10 September and focuses on the topic of racism. As we journey through the week the key question for each of us to reflect on is:how are we becoming one in Christ?”

As always, Caritas Aotearoa has produced excellent and thought provoking resources for our communities to engage with this topic.

“This [Spiritual Conversation Method] is a deeply Catholic way of working together, of praying and listening, discerning, and coming to a decision. Imagine what it would be like if we all worked in this way!”
