In the August Messenger, there was much focus on our Fall Stewardship lectionary, entitled Season of Creation.  Our Creation Care Taskforce, and Stewardship and Worship & Music Committees have spent lots of time planning an eight week lectionary and new liturgy.  Each week will have a unique theme, and we will have guest preachers during the months of September and October.

As Jonathan reflected in his August Messenger article, "singing a new liturgy for the first time is exciting but can also be intimidating.  Five or six new songs that no one has ever heard before is a big ask.  Therefore, I am inviting you to hear and sing this music in an informal setting on Sunday, August 21 & 28.  Both music electives are identical and will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the music room.  Please consider attending one of these music electives so that you will feel more comfortable singing the new liturgy when it begins on September 4."

Come to the Season of Creation Music Electives!
Sunday, August 28 at 9:30 a.m.
In the Music Room
Come and join us for Evangelism Sunday, this weekend.  We will reflect on how Christ calls us to be an invitational church. Those in attendance will even get a surprise gift!

At our 8:15 a.m. worship service, we will also welcome into membership:
  • Wayne Ambrose
  • Debra Baker
  • Bethann Dolbow
  • Juanita Gardner
  • Brice Gardner
  • Frank George
  • Hazel George
  • Jesse Holt
  • Jason Howe
  • Brie Howe
  • Suzanne Hubbard
  • Kirby Scott
  • Kristine Scott
  • Linda Zimmerman
Between worship services there will be a time of fellowship in the gathering area.  Please come, enjoy some breakfast goodies and refreshments provided by our Evangelism Committee and welcome our new members!
We've got a great opportunity for fellowship with Seminary First Years and congregation members of Trinity Arendtsville!  We'll also hear from Mindy Shively, camp director at Nawakwa.  Gil Waldkoenig will lead us in prayer, and will end the evening with an opportunity for announcements and sharing between congregations.

Come on Thursday, September 1 to Camp Nawakwa; we will be at Upper Camp.  There is a pavilion and tables there, and you are welcome to bring a chair if that is more comfortable for you.  There is ample parking at the top of the hill at Upper Camp, so please drive up the lane, and find a convenient place to park.  The entrance lane to Upper Camp is directly across the street from the main entrance of Camp Nawakwa (1033 Nawakwa Road, Biglerville).

We'll eat at 5:30 p.m. and have evening prayer at 6:30 p.m.

Please be sure to RSVP, as all food will be provided.  Please invite a friend or two to come along, just make sure you RSVP for them.

You are welcome to come early to relax, walk or play at Nawakwa.

Our Call Committee asked,
“What unites us most at St. James?"
Here are your answers:
Thank you, St. James community, for your helpful response to our appeal for help!

Seventy-five of you attended one of the Listening Sessions held during a Sunday school hour in July and August and shared your voices in conversation about who we are, what we see in our congregation and our community and what we hear God calling us to be and do in the future.

Sixty-five of you spent time completing the survey, providing needed information to help the Call Committee complete our Ministry Site Profile. Responses to one question are illustrated in the word cloud above, showing what folks think most unites us at St. James. All the information we received, both from reading what you had to say in the surveys and listening to each other in the sessions will greatly help inform how we describe St. James and the pastor to serve with Pr. Andrew.

Now the Call Committee will move to actually boiling down all this data and writing the Profile. When we have completed it, we will share it with you. Please keep praying for the Holy Spirit to bring wisdom to our committee, strength and support to Pr. Andrew, and discernment for the pastor God is preparing for us.
Operation Christmas Child

For the month of August we are collecting:
  • Pens & Pencils
  • Pencil Sharpeners
  • Notebooks
  • Coloring Books
  • Crayons & Markers
  • Solar Calculators
Donations can be placed in the plastic tub outside the church office.

Remember, items will need to fit in a regular sized shoebox, and are for children ages 2 - 9 years old.  Notebooks and coloring books should be flexible/rollable so they fit in the shoe box along with other items.
Hear what the Afghanistan family has been up to this summer.  It sounds like picking fruit, their garden plot and swimming in the pool have been a couple of the highlights.  Read the complete RRP August Newsletter below.

How Can You Take Part?
  • One of the best ways to meet and get to know the family is to complete the clearances to provide transportation.  This takes you to critical needs like groceries and healthcare, as well as fun events like sports and festivities!
  • As new families arrive, we will seek a care team for each new family to meet the family, settle them in, obtain utilities, provide transportation, medical check-ups, and other needs.
  • Read to young children, play games, accompany family to parks and playgrounds, and other activities.
  • Go along on a shopping trip for members of the family, and sponsor back-to-school clothing or other items.

Current Needs:
  • Committee members for Transportation, Cultural Committee, Housing/Furnishings, and grocery trips.
  • Reading, writing, speaking & understanding English: We are partnering with the Adams County Literacy Council (ACLC). To receive 8 hours of online training and direct your assistance with English Language skills to RRP (or other ACLC students).
  • We could use new front and rear bicycle lights for 3 or 4 of the family bikes, and Back-to- School Supplies.
  • If you would like to make a financial contribution please issue a check to Trinity UCC, memo line RRP and mail to 60 E. High St., Gettysburg.
