AUGUST 25, 2022

Thank you for supporting us over the past month while we launched our membership program and released our classes through the end of the year! We are grateful for everyone who reached out with words of encouragement, our new members, and the support of our instructors and classroom participants. It’s amazing what our school has accomplished in just four short years. When you dream big, you can accomplish big things—together!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

September 10 & September 17

What do tacos, meatballs rolling downhill, sheep herding and clogging have in common? They’re activities taking place at events where we need volunteers! Staff the Marine Mills Folk School booth for a few hours at Taco Daze on Saturday, September 10 and support the Scandia-Marine Lions Club along with our school. On September 17, volunteers are needed to serve in a variety of roles at the Marine Fall Festival. (Don’t worry, we’ve got clogging covered, thanks to Cynthia Wickland!)

To sign up, call 612-314-6374 and leave a message or email info@marinemillsfolkschool.org. Volunteers make a huge difference at events—we can’t do them without you. Thank you for lending a hand!

MARINE FALL FESTIVAL
FEATURED ACTIVITY

Living History Society Civilian Reenactors

Have you ever wanted to show a child what playtime was like before the invention of computers or plastic toys? How about going back even farther, before radio and television?

At the Marine Fall Festival on Saturday, September 17, civilian reenactors from the Living History Society are bringing toys and games that were common in the 19th century. Children and their caregivers will have the opportunity to get hands-on experience with games such as  ball in a cup, a bilbo catcher, fabric dolls, marbles, checkers, snake, fox and geese, and others.

Learn more about the festival and all of the planned activities taking place!

You can win raffle items by purchasing tickets at the festival for $5/each or 5 tickets for $20. Winners will be drawn on September 17, 2022 and you do not need to be present to win!

The game of Bridge can trace its ancestry at least to the early 16th century in England (first reference 1529 in a published sermon by Bishop Latimer) and through succeeding centuries when prototype forms of whist were played under such names as triumph, trump, ruff, slam, ruff and honors, whisk and swabbers, whisk, and whist.
