Our main goal at Billingbear is to make this great game accessible and appealing to as many people as possible by providing affordable golf on a well kept course.

To help us do this we keep our costs down where we can and one of the aims of adding the solar panels this summer was to reduce the amount our energy bills go up by in the future.

Doing what we can for the environment is another goal, please do your part by using the appropriate bins provided on the course and around the clubhouse.

Savings created by the solar panels in the last month and a half.

Thanks for your custom this summer, seeing you all enjoy the facilities makes the effort our team put in worthwhile. Best wishes and keeeep swinging!

The Billingbear team

After a fantastic performance in May, the Pauly Zarb Experience will be back in the canopy on September 3rd from 1pm-5pm. A great selection of food and drink will be available to purchase and this time we are raising money for 'Sport in Mind'. This is a mental health charity, based in Reading, who use sport to help people - click here to make your donation.

Golfers/ non golfers are welcome and there's no entry charge.

Your generosity helped us raise £1275 for the Ukraine Crisis Appeal on Saturday 28th May - thank you!

Greens maintenance
To help keep our greens smooth and firm we will be using the graden machine (shown in the picture above) to remove thatch while backfilling with sand, seed and soil conditioner.

This will be taking place on the 30th, 31st August and 1st September on the New course. The greenkeepers will be working on each green for roughly 1.5 hours. Golfers playing on these days may have to play another hole twice to make up their 9 holes.

The following week 6-8th September the team will be working on the Old course greens and golfers may encounter 1 temporary green as the team work their way round from the 9th to the 1st.

Tee work (September-October)
Head greenkeeper Sean and his team will continue to level out the tees and improve their overall condition through a combination of coring, scarifying, spiking, topdressing, seeding and fertilising.

Drainage (mid-late September)
Later in September we have some more drainage work planned for the 2nd, 3rd and 9th fairways on the old course. This will involve installing over a kilometer of new pipes as well as checking/ fixing existing ones.

Tree planting (October)
In October, 150 new trees will be planted to help separate holes. Please take a free drop if a staked tree interferes with your swing.

Irrigation (October-December)
There will be new irrigation pipes installed on the old course as the existing pvc pipes are well over 30 years old and becoming very brittle.

Please be patient with the maintenance work that is coming up, it should all be done by Christmas and we will keep disruption to a minimum. Sometimes tees will need to be moved forward and if a hole has to be closed, the plan is for golfers on the old course to play the 9th on the new course as their final hole. To accommodate this, golfers on the New course will have a temporary green to aim for on the 9th.
