LOOKING BACH GALA CONCERT
SATURDAY 19 NOVEMBER
To finish 2022 with a celebration, we are putting on an event showcasing two collections by J. S. Bach compiled around 300 years ago. The first, his ‘Well-Tempered Clavier’ Book 1, has rightly gone down in history as a benchmark for keyboard composition, exhibiting pieces in all possible keys; the second, a scrapbook-style collection or ‘playlist’ of pieces for keyboard and voices compiled in 1725 for, and most certainly with, his soprano wife Anna Magdalena.

Our main keyboardists will be Libby Burgess (piano) and David Gordon (harpsichord), who will be joined by professional singers, a jazz trio, an electronic sound artist, our Children’s Choir, and our young resident pianists. Short talks, explanations, and demonstrations will be given over the course of the performance and various installations and art pieces will be displayed in other rooms to bring Bach to life.

This will truly be an evening for everyone, where we will present Bach’s genius and craft from some unexpected angles. After the performance, our jazz musicians will carry on the party so you can relax into some socialising over drinks, just like Bach and his family did back in the 1720s.

COME AND SING DAY
15 OCTOBER
As the year turns towards colder weather we invite amateur singers of all ages to join us at the Wycombe Arts Centre to rehearse and perform a varied programme of vocal consort music themed on ‘Endings’. From a piece by Baroque composer Henry Purcell (sung at the Queen’s funeral at Westminster Abbey) to a comic lark-about by Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, singers will explore not just music from different eras but also many different styles of singing – church, spiritual, close harmony, music hall. The day will be led by Artistic Director Jonathan Darbourne, a highly experienced choral conductor and arranger, and will include a group of professional singers who will join in when needed to make sure all involved feel confident.

10am - 5pm
at the Wycombe Arts Centre, HP11 2PU
Tickets £22 | £12 for under 35s
Scores, coffee, tea, and buffet lunch included!
