November 13: Foundation Luncheon
November 16: Interact Club - First Annual Recycling Bin Design Contest

December 3: Holiday Happenings
Hello Remarkable Rotarians,

It’s already November!!! And it’s Foundation month.
We are having our Annual Foundation Luncheon on November 13th at the beautiful Stewart Manor Country Club.
That’s only 12 days away, and we want you there along with the longest serving Rotarian of your club. We want to recognize that person. So, invite them, have your club members come to celebrate and honor them.  There are 3 important steps to follow:

1) Register to attend TODAY!! And register your honoree. https://rotary7255.org/event/annual-rotary-foundation-luncheon
2) Submit to Beth Kramer or me your honoree by Saturday November 7th
3) Email Donna or Mel  to let them know what is in the Gift Baskets, your club is donating for the luncheon by November 5th so they can prepare for the raffle.

It’s only $85 per person, including an open bar and $800 for a table of 10. Please let Lidia know who will be at your table.
Plus there will be a crazy hat contest, so let me know if you are participating.

In other news, on November 16, I am excited to be attending a breakfast recognizing the top 3 Interact clubs who competed in the First Recycling Bin Design Contest. More than 10 Interact clubs have participated.

I know there are many clubs doing Thanksgiving projects this month and I’d love to attend as many as I can. But if it isn’t registered on the district calendar, how do I or anyone else know it’s happening and how can we attend?

For those who submitted expense reimbursements  for RLI they should be arriving shortly. If you have not submitted your expense form please do so ASAP.  The forms can be found online by clicking here.

In case I haven’t told you recently, I appreciate you. I know you are making a difference. Thank YOU!

Smiles,
Sonia Saleh

A poem by Danusha Laméris on the value of small kindnesses:

"I’ve been thinking about the way,
when you walk
down a crowded aisle, people pull in their legs
to let you by. Or how strangers still say “bless you”
when someone sneezes, a leftover
from the Bubonic plague. “Don’t die,” we are saying.
And sometimes,  when you spill lemons
from your grocery bag, someone else will help you
pick them up. Mostly, we don’t want to harm each other.
We want to be handed our cup of coffee hot,
and to say thank you to the person handing it. To smile
at them and for them to smile back. For the waitress
to call us honey when she sets down the bowl of clam chowder,
and for the driver in the red pick-up truck to let us pass.
We have so little of each other, now. So far
from tribe and fire. Only these brief moments of exchange.
What if they are the true dwelling of the holy, these
fleeting temples we make together when we say, “Here,
have my seat,” “Go ahead — you first,” “I like your hat.”

Have an idea for a grant project that is over $30,000??  OR!  Perhaps you are just curious about how Global Grants from The Rotary Foundation work.

Then please join as Brenda Small, Director of Operations for Gift of Life International will be presenting on how to be successful in your Global Grant application, tools and hints, that will be followed by Q&A.  Then, depending on our audience and participants, we will discuss how we can work together for a District-wide Global Grant.

Trivia Answer: The Rotary Foundation started by Rotary International in 1917 when Rotary International’s sixth president, Arch C. Klumph, suggested an endowment fund for Rotary “to do good in the world.” It has grown from an initial contribution in 1917 of $26.50 from the Rotary Club of Kansas City, Missouri, to more than $4.4 billion dollars in total contributions. The Rotary Foundation made its first grant of $500.00 to the International Society for Crippled Children in 1930, and to this day, it continues to “do good in the world” in the name of Rotary.
