New CEZ Watering Trailer Hits the Streets

She's a beauty! New mobile tree-watering trailer ready for duty in the Zone.

Watering new trees in the Zone just got easier and (honestly) more fun!

Thanks to the generosity of our tree-minded community, the CEZ is now the proud owner of a new mobile watering trailer — a community asset that can be shared with community partners for the long-term care and survival of new trees.

The purchase of the 600-gallon water tank trailer and equipment (pump, hose/nozzle and gator bags) was made possible with individuals donations, including a timely challenge grant and a special, one-time gift from the Patrick and Amiee Butler Family Foundation. The new trailer will make watering trees in our communities easier, more consistent, and more effective. We are grateful!

Special thanks to our 100 Trees partner Landbridge Ecological for making our weekly Watering Wednesdays possible with use of a towing vehicle.

Join us for Watering Wednesday

Be part of the team that is taking care of new trees. Sign up for a Wednesday evening shift from from 5:30-7:30 now through October. Two volunteers are needed to walk alongside the trailer and fill 60–80 tree gator bags using a hose and completing routine tree care as needed.

The Watering Wednesday team meets at the CEZ's building at 2171 University Ave W. at Vandalia St. where the trailer and parking can be found. If interested, sign-up for a shift using this online link

SAVE THE DATE: CEZ Community Planting Day is Saturday, October 8.

What Is the 100 Trees Initiative?

Launched in 2021, the 100 Trees Initiative is a grassroots effort to expand the urban tree canopy and offset the high heat index of the Zone.

Historically an industrial and transportation hub, the Creative Enterprise Zone is a fast-growing residential community along Saint Paul’s University Avenue Green Line. Because of a dramatic lack of trees, the area is an acute “heat island,” meaning temperatures are higher than in areas with more trees. Trees improve air and water quality, public health, well-being, and the Zone needs more of them.

The CEZ is committed to planting 100 trees each year and to work toward their long-term care, maintenance and survival.

The Art of Being Brave

2022 Chroma Zone muralist Geno Okok @geno4art says inspiring kids (of all ages) to overcome their fears is an important and reoccurring narrative in his art. He believes we can do anything if we don't let doubt get in our way. You just need to take the leap.

Which is exactly what Geno did when he tackled his own fears and a massive, two-story wall for his latest mural depicting a "superhero" kid breathing out the word "BRAVE." It fills the entire west side of the Sewell Building at 2288 University Ave, home to Urban Boat Builders, Collectivity, and other creative businesses in the Zone.

Thank you, Geno, for this brilliant reminder to all of us to be brave, believe in ourselves and our dreams, and to always take the leap!
