Hello everyone

Who said there would be nothing to talk about now the 21-22 Season has officially finished.  On the contrary, we have Hamilton Island Race Week wins, Classics wins, Brass Monkey wins, boats going further north to Magnetic Island and boats coming home and most of that happening on a beautiful Melbourne winter's weekend...

So that wraps up the Season, thank you everyone for some close racing and we all look forward to the next season commencing Sunday 25 September.  Remember the Race Information Evening Thursday 22nd September at 19:30, at the Club this year...

“Force in Racing – Mentor Program”

The “Force in Racing – Mentor Program” a new initiative developed by the Sailing Committee is intended to facilitate growth in race participation and performance of both HBYC boats and members.  The program will -

  1. create opportunities for participating “pathway crew”,
  2. provide boat “owners and skippers” with capable crew and information to expand their racing program or results, and
  3. Identify “Mentors” within the club who will make themselves available to share knowledge and information in some way.

Any one person could be in all of the above categories. e.g. an elite smaller boat owner, needs crew to win the range series, but has a personal ambition to crew in offshore racing.

Let us build on our history and experience of Club, Inter-Club and Ocean racing with wins at all levels.  We wish to create pathways for new sailors, both boat owners and crew and connect aspiring sailors to either boats or development programs.

Come along to our Sail Information Evening on Thursday 22nd September 2022 at 19:30 to understand more.

Please let me know if you are interested in participating either as a mentee or Mentor at racing@hbyc.org.au

Sailing Information Evening.

As mentioned above, come along to the Club 19:30 Thursday 22nd September to hear what is in store for this season of sailing.
The agenda for the evening will cover:
  - Eligibility
  - Sailing calendar and race series
  - Special regulations and boat safety audits
  - Race documents
  - Crew declarations
  - MOB and Solo Sailing requirements
  - Race Officer, assistance and Land Officer rosters
  - Mentor Program

Pre Season Boat Declaration.

As we move toward to the start of the new sailing season, please ensure you have completed all of the required declarations on our Man Overboard, Safety Audits, and Insurance to enable you to be eligible to enter club events.

Access to a short cut for that information can be found via the following link - https://hbyc.org.au/pre-season-declaration

Safety Category.

As required under our Pre Season Boat Declaration (see above), please ensure your have bought you boat up to the required Safety Category for the events that you would like to enter.

Most of our races are held 'on the flats' and require Safety Category 6, but if you intend to enter either the Two-Handed Series or the John Neilson Long Distance Series, please note that these races require that the boat complies to Category 5.

If you intend to sail events such as the Port Phillip Sea Pilots Race or intend to sail home directly after a Long Distance Race in the dark you will require a 5N rating.

Please refer to our website via the following link https://hbyc.org.au/as-safety-audit-forms

Weighing Day.

A weighing day will be held on Sunday 18th September 2022 from 9am at Sandringham Yacht Club for boats that wish to obtain or update their measurement rating certificates – AMS, ORCc endorsed and IRC.

The cost of the weighing will be $275 per boat.

All boats are weighed in an “empty” configuration and this means that the IRC and ORC weight is provided. The AMS weight is the empty weight plus the weight of the AMS permitted gear, which is weighed in a basket on the club crane.

Please email at info@raceyachts.org if there are any queries or if you wish to make a booking
.

See you all on the water
