There is an increased risk of Foot and Mouth Disease and Lumpy Skin Disease to Australia. The entire industry would be severely impacted by an outbreak of either disease, with reduced international trade, even if dairy farms are not directly affected.
Preparedness and response plans for these diseases are in place and currently being reviewed, with the dairy industry heavily involved. Both Dairy Australia and Agriculture Victoria have updated their websites to reflect this, and provided tools, workshops and support information including access to biosecurity signs and plans.
It is vitally important to report any unusual signs in your animals to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.
