Popsicles & Plantings Party

Thank you to everyone who came out for our Popsicles and Plantings event on Saturday afternoon!

We had fun, ate lots of popsicles, planted almost 200 daffodil bulbs along the Prairie Avenue fence (look for them to bloom next Spring!), and made mosaic stepping stones for the entrance of the Reid Garden (to be installed once dry & grouted).

It was a great way to kick-off the school year, and we look forward to many more community events!

Traffic Safety Reminder for Drop-Off and Pick-Up

Prairie becomes one-way heading north at drop-off and pick-up times. Parking is allowed on both sides of Prairie facing north during these times. Please do not use the alley or driveways to turn around and head south on Prairie. Let's keep our kids safe and traffic safely flowing in one direction.

Key Dates

Monday, 9/5: No school (Labor day)
Saturday, 9/10: NU Football Parking @ Kingsley - 9:00am - Volunteer here
Tuesday, 9/13: PTA Meeting - 7:00pm
Monday, 9/26: No school (Rosh Hashanah)

PTA Announcements

Lunch Help Needed

Join us at the Kingsley Comet Cafe to help children open food items, encourage them to eat, help them clean up afterward (including recycling and composting waste), and be on hand during recess (if you want). Volunteering for lunch duty is a great way to meet the other children in your Comet's grade, as well as the other parents volunteering with you. Sign up in advance, or stop by when you can (lunch and recess times listed in the link). Just be sure to register with the front office upon your arrival.

Football Parking Volunteers Needed

Parking cars in the Kingsley parking lot for home Northwestern Football games is the second largest fundraiser we have, earning an average of $8,000-$10,000 per year. This is an easy and fun way to get involved, meet new families, and raise a lot of money for our school. No experience necessary.  Volunteer responsibilities can end before kick-off, so you don't even miss the game.

Responsibilities are easy - show up at the Kingsley parking lot about 2 hours before kick-off, collect money, and direct cars to parking spots in the lot. That's it! There is no need to return after the game, so once the lot is full or the game starts you are done. Veteran volunteers will be there as well. Sign up to help here.

We are also looking for a couple of coordinators to lead the volunteers the day of, if you are interested or want to learn more please email michelle.dahl.pta@gmail.com.

Waste Sorting Station is Back!

After a long hiatus, we are excited to announce the revival of Kingsley’s Waste Sorting Station! Students will learn how to properly recycle and compost their lunch waste, ultimately taking small steps to becoming thoughtful stewards of this earth we share.

We are looking for parent volunteers to help with educating our students on how to use the waste station both in the classroom and during lunch hours during the first couple of weeks of school. Don’t fret - it's not rocket science - you can easily be trained in just 5-10 minutes. Any amount of time is helpful. Please contact Lynne Hayes at lynnerhayes@yahoo.com or 773-988-2227 if you are interested in helping with this important initiative.

A total of five meetings will be held on October 12, December 14, February 8, April 12 and June 14, at the JEH Boardroom from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm. Apply to be Kingsley's representative here
