Homeward Bound: Lightning Blue and Kryptonite
|
|
The two puppies came to BDRA along with their sister Jasmine who was very quickly adopted by her first foster. This month we send our happy wishes for Lightning Blue (now Blue Isla) and Kryptonite (now Magnolia, or Maggie), who were adopted separately. The adoption team received a record number of inquiries and applications for these puppies, making it difficult to find the best homes but to disappoint hopeful applicants.
Lightning Blue’s (left) foster wrote that she “ is an absolutely adorable, sweet Cockapoo who has a very mild vision impairment. She is laidback but has drive, independence, intelligence and confidence. She also likes to cuddle and give kisses greeting everyone with open paws. She loves to run and romp with her sibling and the rest of the foster pups. Playing tug with her sibling is her favorite pass time.” Isla Blue found the perfect home with a family of five so now she has three human sisters who shower her with attention, love and cuddles.
Kryptonite’s (right) foster wrote that she “ is an absolutely adorable, sweet Cockapoo who was born with vision and hearing impairment. Although Kryptonite is special needs, she never got the memo, because this little girlie is just full of joy and naughtiness like any other puppy and is ready to take on the world! Kryptonite is outgoing and social, confident and her tail never stops wagging even when giving cuddles and kisses.” Kryptonite found all of that with her new family that includes a 3.5 year old Golden Doodle as a happy playmate.

BDRA adopters and volunteers recently said goodbye to these beloved dogs.

Dylan – Adopted in July 2018
Dylan’s adopter wrote about Dylan, “Sadly, we had to say goodbye to Dylan recently. His health began declining rapidly over the winter/spring and his quality of life changed dramatically. He remained interested in food and so we celebrated his life before putting him to sleep with a giant cake and he had pink icing (my daughters choice) all over his sweet face! He passed peacefully at home. We are so thankful for the 4 wonderful years we shared with him. Even though it was a short time he brought so much joy (and dog hair) to our family. Thank you to the entire BDRA team for helping us adopt such a gentle soul!”

Skipper – Adopted in July 2014
Such very sad news. Kathy Lincoln sent Carol an email to let us know Skipper died over the weekend. He had a mass in his lung and she was hoping for a few more months but it was not meant to be. Skipper reported in one of the follow-up messages that “Favorite thing is getting belly rubs and on occasion he will give a "kiss" back - wonderful! Thanks again for all you and your colleagues do to help keep dogs safe and find forever homes for them - I will be forever grateful you brought Skipper into my life!!!!” Here's to many belly rubs at the Bridge.

Babe – Adopted in February 2022
Babe had an unexpectedly short time with her new family. Adopted in February, she bonded quickly and learned the daily routine. Sadly, Babe passed away very unexpectedly after a seizure.

Roscoe – Adopted in October 2009
Roscoe was one of the first BDRA dogs. He went to a loving home and his very sad adopter wrote, “I need to let y’all know that Roscoe passed on last week. He passed peacefully in his sleep in his bed. He was my heart dog. I miss him so very much! I cannot believe how much love and life a little blind pup can bring to someone. He was phenomenal and no one will ever be able to replace him.”

Miller – foster with an approved adopter waiting to take him home
Miller was in a BDRA foster home when he was slow to recover from neuter surgery. He was taken to the veterinarian where he was diagnosed with cancer that had likely been hiding. He passed away peacefully with his foster mom at his side. Miller had the best care his foster and BDRA could supply. He knew he was loved.

Xaviea – adopted in August 2012
We recently received the very sad news that Xaviea’s dad was killed in a car accident and that Xaviea passed away a few weeks later. The tragic news was shared by Xaviea’s mom. “I was with her, and she passed peacefully with lots of hugs, love, and kisses. She was my baby girl, and she will be sorely missed. Her sassy spirit will be an inspiration for the rest of my life.”
