This worksohp is capped at 15 participants, and will be interactive. Zoom registration opening soon!

In his first non-fiction work, Joshua Whitehead brilliantly explores Indigeneity, queerness, and the relationships between body, language and land through a variety of genres (essay, memoir, notes, confession). Whitehead asks: What is our relationship and responsibility towards it? And how has the land shaped our ideas, our histories, our very bodies?

JOSHUA WHITEHEAD is an Oji-Cree/nehiyaw, Two-Spirit/Indigiqueer member of Peguis First Nation (Treaty 1). He is the author of the bestselling novel Jonny Appleseed (Arsenal Pulp Press, 2018), and the poetry collection full-metal indigiqueer (Talonbooks, 2017). He is also the editor of Love after the End: An Anthology of Two-Spirit and Indigiqueer Speculative Fiction (Arsenal Pulp Press, 2020). Whitehead lives in Calgary, and  completed a PhD in Indigenous Literatures and Cultures in the University of Calgary's English department (Treaty 7).

Research for the Front Lines and Concordia's Social Justice Centre present: Investigative Research 101, a training workshop with Investigative Researcher Tim Groves. Tim has a vast array of skills and techniques including : Freedom of Information Requests, Public records, Property research, Archival records, Tracking down experts, Locating databases, Analyzing and displaying data, and Advanced online research. All of these skills are powerful elements of investigative research that can be used to expose environmental injustices and hold corporations and governments accountable.

Hear Robyn Maynard, Harsha Walia and Nazila Bettache discuss 20 years of struggle that led to the current opportunity to win permanent resident status for all. The panel is taking place in advance of the cross-country day of action for Rights, Regularization and Status for All on September 18.

These three incredible organizers have deep roots in the migrant justice movement, and they will reflect on 20 years of struggle and their personal and collective trajectories towards justice.

  • ROBYN MAYNARD is a Toronto-based writer and scholar. Her latest book is Rehearsals for Living, co-authored with Leanne Betasamosake Simpson.
  • HARSHA WALIA is a South Asian activist and writer based in Vancouver, unceded Coast Salish Territories. Her latest book is Border and Rule
  • NAZILA BETTACHE  is a Montreal based social justice activist, physician and member of Caring for Social Justice Collective.

The event will be in English with simultaneous interpretation in French.
