Maritza Félix honored with 2022 Cecilia Vaisman Award for Multimedia Reporters

Fi2W alumn Maritza L. Félix is the 2022 recipient of the Cecilia Vaisman Award for Multimedia Reporters for her work with Conecta Arizona. Feet in 2 Worlds helped Maritza start Conecta Arizona two years ago to combat misinformation about Covid-19 on social media in Spanish. The award, named for Cecilia Vaisman, an audio journalism leader who inspired countless students to pursue careers in video and audio journalism, is presented by the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, along with the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. It recognizes outstanding reporting on Hispanic and Latinx communities.

“The work that Maritza has done in the Latinx community to fight misinformation about the pandemic has undoubtedly saved lives, and the relationships that she is building in her community have helped to strengthen their trust in journalism,” said Medill Dean Charles Whitaker. “For these reasons and more, I am delighted to honor her with the 2022 Cecilia Vaisman Award.”

Maritza’s work will be highlighted during an award ceremony hosted by Medill on Monday, October 3. 

Fi2W Named a Finalist for 2022 INN Nonprofit News Insight Award For Explanatory Journalism

We are delighted to announce that the second season of 'A Better Life?', our podcast series exploring how COVID-19 has changed immigrants’ lives and challenged their ideas about the promise of America, is a finalist for the Institute for Nonprofit News' Insight Award for Explanatory Journalism. The award honors a series of explanatory reporting that provides insight and understanding of a significant and complex subject.

Season 2 of 'A Better Life?' has received 2 awards already- an episode produced by Fi2W Editing Fellow Quincy Surasmith won a Golden Crane Award from the Asian American Podcasters Association earlier this year, and contributor Zulekha Nathoo won an Atlanta Press Club award for an episode she produced for the series.

Winners of the 2022 Nonprofit News Awards will be announced during a virtual ceremony on September 21st.
