Note from the Superintendent
Dear Parents, Guardians, Students and District Patrons,
It is my pleasure to welcome everyone to the 2022-23 school year! The start of each school year brings much excitement and energy. We all feel this excitement in different ways. Students look forward to seeing friends, some of whom they may not have seen since late May, and are excited about all that the new school year will bring. Parents and guardians are happy to see their children off for the start of another successful school year, yet are amazed at how fast their children are growing. Teachers, re-energized from vacation and summer professional learning are eager to see their students and colleagues as they prepare for the first day of school.
It truly is an exciting time for our school district and community as we continue to grow! One of the biggest summer highlights for the school district has been the construction project at the middle school. With the new addition and the renovation of the two existing buildings, the middle school looks like a beautiful brand new building. The 28,000 square foot addition includes a gorgeous new entrance for the school, a new main office, nurse’s office, media center, counselor’s offices, new science classrooms/labs, family and consumer science classroom and a woodshop classroom. The two existing buildings have received an extensive makeover, including new floors, ceilings, LED lighting, and remodeled restrooms. The old office and media center are being converted into additional classrooms. The new addition connects the middle school’s two existing buildings, which will improve the safety and security of our students and staff. All of this work at the middle school was made possible by the district patrons approving the $7.7 million no-tax-increase bond issue in April 2021 for the construction project. We’re looking forward to showcasing all of this during the middle school’s open house for parents and students at the end of the month and we will be planning an open house for the entire community after school starts.
One of the things that makes Southern Boone School District special is the passion and love that families and the community have for our schools, students, teachers and staff. This school year, we plan to continue building a strong culture of learning, deepening our collaboration skills and improving our communication to shape how our schools operate. We have a variety of opportunities for students to excel academically and extracurricularly. Our team of educators and administrators look forward to working with you to provide the foundation that each of our students needs in order to reach their full potential and achieve their dreams. If you are interested in volunteering in PTA (Parent Teacher Association), being a reading mentor, supporting our athletic program or Learning Garden, among many other worthwhile activities, please reach out to your school office. They will be happy to visit with you.

Online Registration
The annual online registration for ALL Southern Boone students for the 2022-2023 school year is now open through the Parent Portal in Tyler SIS. This registration process includes:
- Allows you to electronically sign permissions/agreements that are required each year.
- Allows you to update family information (address change, phone number change, etc).
- Allows us to provide important information to families for the upcoming school year.

Student Immunization Requirements
Immunization requirements are determined by the State of Missouri. Students are required to receive immunizations, according to the schedule(s) listed below, and documentation of up-to-date immunizations must be submitted to your child’s school nurse PRIOR to attending school on his/her first day. If you have any questions, or if you need a copy of your child’s current shot record on file with the school, please contact the nurse in his/her building.

All students, regardless of grade level, must be up-to-date on their vaccinations prior to starting school each year (see links provided above).

All new/incoming preschool and kindergarten students must be up-to-date.

Students entering 8th grade are required to have updated Tdap (Tetanus) and MCV (Meningococcal) vaccines.

Students entering 12th grade are required to have two doses of the MCV (Meningococcal) vaccine. Note: If the first dose was administered after the student’s 16th birthday, only one dose is required.

Free and Reduced Meal Application
With the new school year starting soon, the Southern Boone School District is urging families to complete the free or reduced meal application as part of the online registration process.
The Federal USDA Waiver that allowed school districts to provide meals at no cost to students has expired. The USDA did NOT extend the Federal Waiver for the upcoming school year.
Parents are asked to fill out the 2022-2023 Free and Reduced Meal Application for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year. The school district is encouraging all families to fill out an application. Even if you think your family won’t qualify, your application can help the school district in many different areas including federal funding and qualifying for grants. Completing an application is the only way to be considered for free or reduced meals.
You can fill out the application online or download and print off a paper copy of the application. You can turn in the completed form to your child’s school office or central office.

Announcement for Parents Using Outlook/Hotmail Email
The school district has been made aware of an issue from parents with Microsoft Outlook/Hotmail-related email addresses not receiving emails from the school district.
We’re working diligently to resolve this issue. Teacher and class schedule information is available in Tyler SIS. If you are a parent with a Microsoft Outlook/Hotmail-related email and have an alternative email, please update your contact information in Tyler SIS.

New School Email Domain for Student Email
There are some students that are having issues logging into their Google accounts. Over the summer, the school district changed its email domain name from @ashland.k12.mo.us to @sbschools.us.
When students login into their Google accounts, their email prefix (the unique identifier or username that comes before the @ symbol in an email address) will stay the same, but they will need to use @sbschools.us, the new email domain (the part of your email address behind the @ symbol). Their password remains the same and did not change.
