Alaska INBRE’s goals are to expand our network’s capacity for conducting multi-disciplinary biomedical and health research and to grow and diversify the pipeline of students entering biomedical research careers. This funding opportunity is to join in an application to the National Institute of General Medical Sciences for use of carry over funds from our primary award for one-time expenditures towards meeting these goals that are not eligible for funding through the existing mechanisms within our cores.

Research Assistant (RA) Position Summary - UAA
Become part of the solution to plastic pollution by joining research developing bio-based alternatives to plastics! This student Research Assistant (RA) position is at UAA Biomaterials Laboratory to work on grant-funded biomaterials projects. This fully funded position will be approximately 20 hours/week during the school year, starting in the 2022 Fall semester. Possibility of working full-time in the Summer. RA will join the International research team in development of green bio-based materials. RA will be working under the guidance of the Principal Investigator. - RA Duties: Research Professional will perform varied research tasks including keeping a lab logbook, maintaining fungal cultures and cell lines, conducting experiments, and collecting data. RA will also assist in overall project management and procurement including ordering of the lab supply and equipment, assist with biomaterials testing, including biological, mechanical, and thermal properties analysis, contribute to drafting of reports, publications and presentations.
- Education and Experience: Master’s level coursework in biology or engineering degree or a related field.
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Ability to work independently, team player with an interest in sustainability and green materials. Experience in microbiology or/and materials properties testing are a plus.
