The Cooling Centers will open again Tuesday and Wednesday this week!  There are a number of meetings and events taking place that will limit the ability of a number of the regulars to serve. If you have a couple of hours to come and help, it would be greatly appreciated!

Together with the Extreme Weather Heat Response team of Taskforce to End Homelessness in Burnaby, we urgently need volunteers for the cooling centres at Civic Square and Kensington Park on Aug. 30- Aug. 31.

There are 5 shifts a day and each shift needs 2 volunteers.  
 
During the day, volunteers hand out water, provide wet towels, visit people, and try and make everyone feel as comfortable as possible. All supplies will be in a bin on site which will be opened by City or Taskforce personnel. There will be pop-up tents, chairs, tables, drinking cups and hoses, games etc.

They will start renovating the building right away after Aug. 31st and have it ready for operation by end of the year. To complete the renovation, they are relying on donated labour/trades from supporting churches!

Volunteers can contact Kiana with their skills and the days that they are available to help. These include general labour, demolition work, clean-up, concrete work, different types of flooring, plumbing, electrical, drywall/mudding, painting, shelving set up, cabinet work, carpentry, and landscaping, etc. They are also still needing/receiving donations for the many renovations, which could be in the form of construction materials.
