Income Generating Pilot Project (IGA) for Women

We are close to the realisation of FICDO's Injera baking and supply IGA for women.  Last week saw the completion of electrical installation work in the workshop where  the women will be baking injera.

The women are already organised into two groups (cooperatives) and received training. All the equipment required for the project have been secured. We have also secured 2056 Euro (123,368 birr) towards seed money. We are now roughly about 1122 Euro (67,352 birr) short to provide each woman 100kg of teff to start with.  We hope to raise this by mid-September. You can click on this link to chip in via the GofundMe page we opened for this. Thank you

Information Session in Dublin

We have had a successful info and thank you session in Dublin, Ireland, on Sunday 14 August, 2022.  We presented a report on FICDO's work and thanked all those who enabled us.  It was great to catch up with old and new friends as well as supporters.  We are heartened by the outpouring of support from the participants.

Catching up with FICDO's Ambassador

After closing our Fiscal Year at the end of June, we connect with our key donors to thank them in person. To this end, Ewnetu had a catch up call with Yetinayet Tamirat, FICDO's Honorary Ambassador and key donor. Yetinayet's generous donation of a quarter of a million birr, back in September, enabled us to provide valuable services to our community throughout the year!  Besides her active community work, Yetinayet is a mother, an accomplished actress, film director and entrepreneur. She is currently serving as CEO of two businesses Spot Ethiopia and Swiss Diagnostics Ethiopia, and Executive Director for Africa in Mediquai, a Swiss Medical Company (mediquai.com).

Our Community Kitchen Open in August

Our Community Kitchen caters for 100 children during the school term (September to mid-July).  Two dozen elderly who have neither a family nor the strength and resources to cook for themselves also depend on the kitchen for their daily meal and survival.  Therefore, we continued our service to the elderly during this Ethiopian winter (July and August). Our services also help the elderly overcome loneliness since volunteers take their time to chat to the elderly during the daily meal deliveries. We are grateful to our volunteers, and our key supporter (a native of Fitche from Texas) who financially sponsored this winter service.

Serving Children During Winter School Break

Although schools are closed, we decided to provide the one hundred children in our care with a meal once a week in July and August. The children also take dry food to their home.  We are grateful to our volunteers as well as our supporters who enabled us to provide this vital service.

FICDO's Website

FICDO's official website https://ficdo.org is up and running.  We are hoping to launch it officially in two weeks after adding a couple of pages and features.  But you can have an early peek.

Fund-raising Campaign Completed Successfully

Some of our supporters and volunteers, who are members of Ethiopian Orthodox Church, voluntarily started a fund-raising campaign for FICDO during the Filseta (Ge'ez: ፍልሰታ) fasting period from 7 to 22 August.  The plan was to skip breakfast and donate the cost towards FICDO's social inclusion projects.

We would like to thank organisers Tesfaye Negussie (Addis ababa) and Kesis Anania (Fitche). We would also like to thank all those who donated.
Want to make a difference in peoples' lives?

You can be part of our exciting projects and make a real difference in peoples' lives.  Just twenty euro a month can transform a child's life by covering the cost of meals and other expenses required to keep the child in school for a month.  Twelve Euro a month can provide life-saving meals for a month for an elderly with no family.  You can empower a young girl/woman by supporting her to get skills training or start a small business.  You can contribute ideas, support us with your expertise and prayers. There is a lot we can do together.  You can contact us at info@ficdo.org to learn more  Thank you.
