Today, more than ever, international education is a central part of curricula, embedded in institutional missions, and contributor to student success towards completion, transfer, and graduation. An organization such as CCIE can and does play a central part in the development of new programs to support these efforts.

However, it is critical that all members are current with their dues. The dues support CCIE initiatives.

Internationals behind quarter of US billion-dollar startups

One quarter of US billion-dollar companies have a founder who attended a US university as an international student, according to a new report from the National Foundation for American Policy. Many big-name-company founders went to the US to study, including SpaceX founder Elon Musk, who went to the University of Pennsylvania.

NAFSA Statement on International Students

International students are vital to U.S. classrooms, communities, and the economy but the U.S. is losing its edge in attracting them. NAFSA’s annual analysis of the economic contributions of international students found that, in the 2020-2021 school year, the nearly one million international students at U.S. colleges and universities contributed $24.8 billion to the U.S. economy and supported more than 300,000 jobs.

CCIE INSTITUTIONAL GRANT COMPETITION


CCIE announces that the Spring 2022 Institutional Grant competition is now closed.  The Fall 2022 Institutional Grant Competition is due NOVEMBER 1, 2022. The purpose of these grants is to provide start-up funding for institutions wanting to either create a new international program or augment an existing international program and to create a new cohort of CCIE international education mentors. CCIE Institutional Grants of up to $ 3,000 will be competitively awarded to CCIE members current with their dues. CCIE members must be current with their dues prior to applying.

Climate Action Network for International Educators (CANIE) Workshop

As a field, we can no longer ignore our work’s contribution to climate change. The Climate Action Network for International Educators (CANIE) is helping the field of international education step up and lead on climate while continuing to provide transformational global experiences for students.  CANIE is a global volunteer network that serves as a platform to bring the field together to act as a catalyst for climate action.

STUDY ABROAD

NEW: Education Abroad and College Completion ARTICLE

The Consortium for Analysis of Student Success through International Education (CASSIE) compiled semester-by-semester records from 221,981 students across 35 institutions, including 30,549 who had studied abroad. The analysis found positive impacts of education abroad on graduation within 4 and 6 years and on cumulative GPA at graduation.

Congratulations to the FEA Scholarship Winners

The Fund for Education Abroad announced its 2022-2023 recipients of their annual student education abroad scholarships. 2 California community college students won these awards. 

(1) Nafisah Fathima: Santa Barbara City College. Studying in United Kingdom  for Fall 2022 semester.
 
(2) Alexandra Gallagher: Diablo Valley. Studying in Italy for the 2022-2023 Academic Year

ISA Ireland Webinar

ISA Ireland is offering an online ‘Global Perspectives’ course as well as the September 2022 Faculty Professional Development symposium in Ireland. The ‘Global Perspectives through the Narratives of Ireland’ is an online course designed for Community College students. Funding has become available to provide for a Fall 2022 course for up to 30 students in selected CALIFORNIA Community Colleges. 

ISAI academic director Dr. Niamh Hamill is inviting interested Community College Faculty and Administrators to join us for a webinar to discuss this scholarship opportunity.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Institute of Study Abroad Ireland has created a 5-day site visit and internationalization symposium to kick-start or reboot your internationalization post Covid-19. Learn how to integrate international content into the curriculum (for all disciplines), including STEM and TECH. Develop international partnerships for virtual and blended coursework. Develop strategies to embed faculty-led trips across the curriculum which are sustainable, affordable, educational, safe and enjoyable.
