Jackman Humanities Institute Postgraduate Professional Development Day

A&S humanities and social sciences faculty are encouraged to share the Jackman Humanities Institute’s Professional Development Day event with graduate students. This online workshop will feature sessions on applying for postdoctoral funding and full-time postdoctoral jobs, and how to look and apply for postings outside academia.

Mitacs Globalink Research Internship

Faculty and staff are encouraged to share the Mitacs Globalink Research Internship call for applications with students. Each year from May to October, top-ranked applicants participate in a 12-week research internship under the supervision of Canadian faculty members in a variety of academic disciplines, from science, engineering and mathematics to the humanities and social sciences.

Online Lab Safety Training

This September, U of T is preparing to welcome students back to campus. In addition to new students, some returning students who have taken online courses during the pandemic may take part in a research or teaching lab in person for the first time. The Environmental Health & Safety office has online resources for instructors to ensure that students arrive on campus with the training requirements they need to work and study safely and effectively in a laboratory setting. These include modules on lab safety for new users as well as refresher training. There are also online modules for faculty members and staff.

Urgent Apple Update Required

Keeping your software up to date is one of the most important things you can do to maintain your Apple product's security. Due to recent security issues, all Apple products require urgent updates. Please complete these updates immediately if you are an Apple user and reach out to your departmental IT team if you require assistance.

Microsoft 365 Licensing Changes Including Casual Staff, Retired & Emeritus Faculty

The University has implemented a new Microsoft licensing agreement with improved security features and more. All U of T staff and appointed, salaried faculty, as well as research associates and postgraduates continue to have access to the full range of Microsoft 365 online and desktop products.

Casual staff now have access to a new standard toolkit which entails online-only access to Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint as well as 50GB of mailbox storage. Retired and emeritus faculty now have e-mail only access with 50GB of mailbox storage.

Department managers, contact your local departmental IT team if you have questions or would like to assess or discuss any licensing changes or exceptions for your team members.
