Welcome to National Library Card Sign Up Month! How are you using Beanstack to celebrate? As the calendar changes, our excitement is bubbling over for all the things coming this season. We're kicking things off with a contest! Here we go!!

Beanstack co-founder, Jordan Lloyd Bookey, is the creator and host of a new podcast called The Reading Culture! On the show, Jordan connects with diverse authors about their own journeys as readers and storytellers, their perspectives on the cultural on the cultural climate in children's and young adult literature, and the experiences that motivated them to read more. Each episode features a themed reading list challenge with titles hand-picked by the author to inspire students and readers of all ages. The first episode drops in late September, but you can listen to the trailer now.

New & Notable: Calling Young Writers!
 

We're considering featuring original writing from authors ages 10–18 in future reading list challenges. The categories would likely be as follows:

  • Poetry: Maximum 300 words per entry.
  • Short Story: Maximum 1,500 words per entry.
  • Informal Essay: Maximum 1,500 words per entry on a nonfiction topic or issue of your choice.
  • Comic or graphic novel: Maximum eight pages per entry. Each entry must tell a complete story, must use words and original images, and can be fiction or nonfiction.
If you are interested in submitting original writing from a student or library member, please contact us at youngwriters@zoobean.com. We'd love for a young writer in your community to be among the first to have their work featured in Beanstack!


Blast Off: Day 1—Let's Go to the Moon!

Today we kick off the monthlong sponsored challenge, NASA's Artemis Project: To The Moon, Mars, and Beyond. Over 140 libraries from across the country are participating in this interactive challenge celebrating our next adventures into space. Our library partners are decorating and highlighting their collections in the most creative ways! A quick shoutout to our partner at Hayner Public Library District (IL), who shared their amazing display case!
