As we wind down summer hopefully PGOSAns are gearing up for some fall activities. It has been a wonderful summer, weather wise, so hopefully everyone has enjoyed the warm or hot summer and got out to enjoy our wilderness, beaches, or parks! Soon we will be complaining about the rain and cooler weather so take advantage of the never-ending warm summer rays. Soon it will change and we will be indoors wondering where the sunshine went.
Always looking for members to step up and get involved in leadership – managing activities, organizing social events for the organization, or assisting when cries for help go out!
Attrition has taken some of the long acting activity managers, so we are looking for members to take over running a few activities – Badminton, Carpet Bowling, and Five Pin Bowling. If you have an interest or expertise in one of these sports please let us know by replying to the Chronicle. A Board member will contact you and discuss how to get the activity rejuvenated!
Get involved this fall – remember – “People do not cease to play because they grow old; they grow old because they cease to play”
Membership Registration / Social Mornings
This Friday, September 2nd is the last coffee and registration opportunity at Parksville Community Park for this summer – 9:30 to 11:30 am.
Although attendee numbers have been low, those who have attended have enjoyed the social time and meeting other members. In September registration moves back to Wembley Mall at the Oceanside Place Arena in the front lobby. Registration days will be Wednesdays – September 14th and 28th from 9:30 to 11:00 am. This is for new members only as we are not starting renewals for 2023 until November. Watch the calendar for more dates which will be scheduled soon.
Member numbers are approximately 950 – a solid number putting us on track for our projected number of 1000 by year’s end. As of October 1st, membership becomes $5.00 for the remainder of the calendar year – to December 31st.
Curling at Parksville Curling Rink
Curling on PGOSA COED recreational teams will continue this fall, starting on Thursday, October 6 from 11:15 to 1:15 pm.
Any new participants need to register by contacting the league coordinator, Jim Powell, at 250-248-8341 or email: trijim@shaw.ca.
In addition to expressing your interest in playing in the PGOSA league, state your experience – new or beginner, intermediate, or experienced – and the position you would like to play. Teams are formed by the league. We do try to create balanced teams by playing ability and male/female members. You can request to play with a spouse or partner.
Beginners will be requested to attend lessons on the previous two Thursdays, September 22 and 29, so the sport can be introduced to you in a safe and supportive manner. Previous experience is not needed, but a moderate level of athleticism is necessary as sweeping and rock delivery takes effort and basic coordination.
If previous PGOSA curlers have not heard from Jim, PGOSA curling coordinator, please email him to let him know that you are interested in curling again this fall. He will contact you and give you more information.
Looking forward to another enjoyable season and lots of exercise sweeping those rocks!

Cards and Other Games
Cards and other Games
This activity is starting for the fall and winter months at the end of September at the Bradley Center in Coombs. Popular games are Cribbage and Mexican Train (a dominos type game). Other card games are welcome, as is table tennis for anyone wanting some physical exercise. Chess has also been suggested but so far there haven’t been any takers or participants who would like to play. We have lots of space so the various games can spread out and not bother those who need a quieter atmosphere.
Coffee and treats are served so the afternoon becomes an enjoyable social time.
Location: The Studio at the Bradley Center Starts: Wednesday, September 28 Days: 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month Time: 1:30 to 3:30 pm Fee: $2.00 drop in fee and membership at Bradley Center - $5.00 per year for an annual membership
