The Indigenous Knowledge Institute currently has two funding schemes open for application from University of Melbourne researchers. The schemes are designed to suit both initial scoping activities and more advanced project ideas.

Seed Funding


The IKI invites proposals for innovative and interdisciplinary research projects with a focus on Indigenous knowledges.

The research project should address an identified need or gap in the field of Indigenous knowledge research.

Researchers from all disciplines across the University of Melbourne are eligible to apply for projects up to a maximum of $20,000.

Community Engagement Grants


Got a new Indigenous knowledge research idea you want to test, explore, and develop? Need funding to establish community-engaged networks?

The Community Engagement Grants scheme aims to support research ideas that may lead to a proposal for future rounds of the IKI’s Seed Funding program.

Researchers from all disciplines across the University of Melbourne are eligible to apply for projects up to a maximum of $3,000.

This is a new scheme and an information session will be held on 7 September, 12:30-1:30pm AEST.

Applications close 3 October 2022.
