A Message from Pastor Denise Carrell

Over the next few weeks, we will explore some key Biblical moments when Jesus was, quite simply, not who people wanted him to be.

As his ministry began, he was faced with years of tradition, scriptures, teachings and laws which had culminated into a clear messianic expectation. The Israelites were expecting a very certain savior. And yet, as we will explore, Jesus seemed to have little interest in fulfilling that expectation. Jesus’ mission did not appear to be one of human appeasement.

Throughout these stories, Jesus had what seemed to be very clear moments of choice. What can we Iearn from these moments?

Sala, a Time of Fellowship

Save the date:  Thursday September 15, 2022 from 7:30-9 pm. A special Sala at Christ Congregation: “An Evening with Oneself” led by Reiki master and spiritual guide, Joanne Gorelick.

Bio:  Joanne Gorelick
Joanne has been a dedicated spiritual seeker for over 15 years, although her ‘seeking’ began long before that.  She has taught yoga and chair yoga since 2007, and has been an enthusiastic student of Advaita Vedanta, the Hindu Scriptures, for the past 10 years, finding truth in its teachings. In 2008 Joanne graduated from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, certified as a health coach.  She is also a Reiki master and she has been influenced by ISHA yoga, A Course in Miracles, Dr. Joe Dispenza, and various other yoga teachers and Reiki masters.  In 2021, Joanne started studying Autonomic Response Testing under Dr. Dietricht Klinghardt, which looks at the body in terms of its light.  As Joanne continues along her spiritual path, she is eager to share what she has learned with others.

"The Lab," with Joanne
The starting point for "The Lab" is to accept, at least for the duration of the class, that each and every one of us is 'Divine Essence,' whatever that means to you.  As that Divine Essence, we are each worthy of compassion, forgiveness and love.  This class is an invitation to dare to suspend old, harmful beliefs (at least for the duration of the class), in order to experiment with new beliefs that promote healthier habits of thought and emotion.  With healthier thought and emotional patterns, we can create happier and healthier futures for ourselves.  Managing our minds and emotions is a skill that requires practice; "TheLab" is that practice.  "The Lab" encompasses chair/standing yoga, centering, pranayama (breath work), chanting, meditation and reiki, set to supportive and inspiring, if not healing, music.  Please join us!

Book Discussion Group

Folks,
Our next book discussion will be held by Zoom on Saturday, September 10th, at 7:00PM.

The book will be Abi Daré's novel The Girl With The Louding Voice.

"The unforgettable, inspiring story of a teenage girl growing up in a rural Nigerian village who longs to get an education so that she can find her “louding voice” and speak up for herself, The Girl with the Louding Voice is a simultaneously heartbreaking and triumphant tale about the power of fighting for your dreams.  Despite the seemingly insurmountable obstacles in her path, Adunni never loses sight of her goal of escaping the life of poverty she was born into so that she can build the future she chooses for herself – and help other girls like her do the same.  Her spirited determination to find joy and hope in even the most difficult circumstances imaginable will “break your heart and then put it back together again” (Jenna Bush Hager on The Today Show) even as Adunni shows us how one courageous young girl can inspire us all to reach for our dreams…and maybe even change the world."

Hope you will be able to join us.
