AWC Activity Updates

On August 9th, AWC staff headed out to help with a pond leveller installation on Bear Creek in the Pembina River Watershed. This work was funded by the Watershed Resiliency and Resoration Program with in-kind support Westlock County, Highway 2 Conservation, and from the landowner who donated his time and equipment.
AWC Staff assist staff from Westlock County in preparing the pond leveller for installation.
On August 12th, the AWC collaborated with the Alice B. Donahue Library in Athabasca to deliver a summer program all about the Athabasca Watershed!
Sarah MacDonald (our Watershed Science Coordinator) delivering kid's programming on the lawn outside the Alice B. Donahue Library.
On August 24th to 26th, staff headed to the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains to choose sites to sample for the second year of the AWC's Upper Athabasca Biomonitoring Project.
Sarah and Petra choosing where we should go next to find sites for our CABIN and STREAM sampling.
On August 29th we said goodbye to our summer student Aneilia Ayotte, who spent the last couple months as our Science Communications Coordinator. We wish her all the best as she heads into her second year at King's University. Read about her summer experience below:

Environmental Education Outcomes:
The course explores pathways from educational activities to environmental behavior and action. We focus on many fascinating pathways including sense of place, nature connectedness, personal- and collective-efficacy, and identity. And we teach you to develop your own theory of change for influencing others to take environmental actions.
