Dear friends and partners,

The first week of school is officially in the books! From morning drop-offs, student drumlines, race car science projects, outdoor classrooms, and so much more – I was thrilled to welcome students and families back for an exciting new year of learning and fun in LAUSD.

We will continue to support the success of our school communities and address any challenges to make the transition back to class as smooth as possible. As alignment with public health guidelines now allows our kids to safely return to some sense of normalcy in their school day, we are redoubling our efforts to support their full recovery from this crisis. With a focus on accelerating academic progress and fostering social-emotional wellbeing, LAUSD is committed to doing whatever it takes to ensure every child can reach their full potential.

Onward,

In the Spotlight: Paseo del Rey adds new Spanish dual-language program!
LAUSD is expanding our thriving dual-language options! I was thrilled to visit Paseo del Rey Elementary to say "¡Bienvenidos!" to their new Spanish dual-language class on the first day of school. Under the leadership of principal Dr. Colette Boston, the school has also opened a new early transitional kindergarten (ETK) program to serve our youngest learners. ¡Felicidades to everyone in the Paseo del Rey school community!
