We may be in the lazy days of late summer, but here at Riverside we've been hard at work, stocking up the garden centre and shop with trees, late flowering perennials, spring bulbs, new seed lines and more. Read on for a few highlights, plus a date for your diary...

Trees have arrived!

Last week we took delivery of our eagerly awaited autumn tree order. Riverside staff were hard at work unpacking, sorting and getting them on display, ready for you to explore. Our range includes a wide selection of ornamental and fruit trees, many of which we have chosen as being ideally suited to city gardens.

Potted trees can be planted out at any time of year, but the upcoming cooler, damper conditions of autumn are especially beneficial in helping newly planted trees to establish themselves well. If you need any help picking a tree or advice on caring for it, please ask any of our friendly staff and we will do our best to assist!

Prepare for spring colour

Late summer is the time when many a gardener starts dreaming up their perfect spring bulb display. Join the fun in our freshly stocked spring bulb section and choose from a gorgeous palette of Tulips, Daffodils, Anemones, Hyacinths, Muscari, Snowdrops, Crocus and more.

Most of these bulbs are equally happy in the ground or in pots. As different varieties flower at different times it is possible, with a small amount of planning, to create a continuous display right through the spring months. One way to achieve this is by creating a 'bulb lasagne' - read our guide to find out how.

Date for your diary

If you attended our Orchid talk at the beginning of August, we hope you enjoyed it and learned something new! Next up in our events calendar is a free talk from houseplant expert Joe Bagley. If you've always wanted to get a bit better with houseplants join us on 16th September at 2pm and benefit from Joe's extensive knowledge. See you there!

Water saving made easier

The hot, dry summer we've had this year is a stark reminder of just how precious a resource water is. Harvesting rain water is one way to conserve water, allowing you to save up water when it's plentiful, ready for those drier days. Throughout the year we stock a range of water butts and accessories to help get your started. Currently, we have 100L water butts, water diverters and replacement taps. Chat with our friendly staff if you need any advice!

Happy to help.

If you have any questions at all then please feel free to contact us, we'd love to hear from you!
