FROM THE MANAGEMENT LAB

Seven reasons why you’re not recruiting the best people for your growing business

Recruiting talented people is the single most significant difference you can make to your business. It’s way more important than anything else. Get more A-Players into your company, and the pace will go up. Not only that, but your ability to deliver quality work for your customers will increase exponentially. There’s less stress about winning bigger projects because you know it will happen. In fact, there’s less worry all around.

Contrast this with having fewer A-Players. You start to drive towards efficiency, bureaucracy and repeatable processes. Your B and C-Players can’t cope with anything else. You stifle any thought or talent in your business when you do this. And you lose any good people that you still have.

So why aren’t you recruiting them?

4 Ways to Communicate with More Empathy

During challenging times, the most effective leadership communications are ones that deliver attention, acknowledge distress, demonstrate care, and — not necessarily at first, but eventually — take appropriate action to mitigate the situation or at least provide comfort, so, regardless of how empathic you are or think you are, focus on those four touchpoints in your communication. Tesla Operates Agile on Scale and its Car Insurance Product is Proof

Despite only being roughly 2% of cars on the road in the UK, Tesla’s approach to car manufacturing and car insurance has made more traditional companies, both car manufacturers and insurance companies alike stand-up and take notice, and this could not have taken place without Tesla embracing and then scaling agile practices and principles. MEANINGFUL ACTION FOR MONDAY

Ask yourself about your leadership team. Are they all A-Players?

Every month, you need to ask yourself these questions about your leadership team: 'would you enthusiastically rehire them?', 'are they A-Players?', and 'do you believe your executive team are in the top 10% of available talent, given the job they do for you and the location they're in?'

Your company can never outperform your leadership team, and if it's not made of 100% of A-Players, your dreams will just be dreams. They won't become a reality.
