An HSP milestone: 800 transplants

We are pleased to share the news of another exciting milestone for the Highly Sensitized Patient (HSP) program: 800 transplants for the hardest to match patients. These are transplants that otherwise would not have happened

The HSP program is a national organ sharing program operated by Canadian Blood Services in collaboration with all provincial donation and transplant programs The program gives provincial transplant programs access to a larger national pool of kidney donors for highly sensitized patients who need a more specific donor match.

Organs & Tissues for Life Education Portal

The topic of organ and tissue donation and transplantation can sometimes be emotional and complex, even taboo. We've partnered with experts from around the world to gather and develop tools that will provide guidance to Canadian teachers, making organ donation a more accessible and less intimidating subject.

Don't forget to let the teachers in your life know about the Organs & Tissues for Life education portal featuring a wide range of resources and tools appropriate for elementary and high school students. Find high-quality, grade-appropriate resources to help students learn about human organ systems, healthy living, social responsibility and giving back to their community.

In the news...

The American Society of Transplantation has released a series of Monkeypox FAQs for the transplant community.

On July 21, 2022, the World Health Organization declared the monkeypox outbreak as a public health emergency of international concern. "This communication is intended to inform the transplant community of the potential risk caused by monkeypox to our transplant patients. While there have been no published data on monkeypox in transplant recipients, there is an imminent threat to this immunocompromised group of patients, if the ongoing human-to-human spread continues."
