SEPTEMBER 2022  “Old Pueblo”  Newsletter

Hôla Pilgrims…If you have been following our Facebook page, you will have seen that, recently, there has been quite a wave of Pop Up Walks. Our chapter is picking up the pace, and its because we have some really motivated members who are getting up in the wee hours of the A.M. to watch both the sun rise at the top of Tumamoc Hill, and watch the sun set as they walk along the River Walk Loop; Rain or Shine we head out.

Starting in a couple of weeks, some of our Old Pueblo Pilgrims will be leaving on their, respective Caminos; we are excited for them and hope that we have given them enough information to, at least, get them started on their journey without anyone getting lost before they get to the starting line.

If you plan to come to the Book Club Event on September 15, you might want to start thinking about reading the book; it is called “The Way Is Made By Walking,” author, Paul Boers.

Here is what we are planning for September…

*Sept 3 - 1st Saturday, "Coffee in the Park"

*Sept 8 - 2nd Thursday, "Sabino Canyon Night Walk"

*Sept 10 - 2nd Saturday, Sunrise at Tumamoc Hill

*Sept 15 - Book Club at Mercado Annex

*Sept 24 - Monthly Hike in Madera Canyon

September 24 @ 8am - Monthly Hike:
Our next hike will be in Madera Canyon in acknowledgement of our South of Tucson pilgrims. We will meet at 8:00a at the "Supertrail" Trailhead at the end of Madera Canyon Road, I'll be in the red Toyota 4Runner. I have included a schematic of the trailhead area and a photo of the restroom, better known as our meeting location.

Total distance for this loop trail is 6.1 miles with about 1600 ft elevation change.  This will be a good hike to practice with your trekking poles.

As always come prepared with sun protection, water, as well as any medicine/supplies you may require.  A hardy snack is also a good idea.  Please RSVP via the link below or call me at 520-203-1112 - that way I can inform you of changes due to weather conditions. Carpooling is encouraged. It takes about an hour to get to the trailhead from central Tucson.

Looking forward to walking with you,

Thanks!
