How will we connect when we physically all are able to assemble in church? How can radical acceptance help us in moving forward as a spiritual community?
Brief Report of Motions Passed at August Board of Trustees Meeting
The Board of Trustees met via Zoom on Wednesday, August 17. Karen Burns Rutigliano, Peggy Parsons, and Sue Oerkvitz joined as guests.
Kyle Gracey moved to increase the Instrumentalist/Guest Artist budget by $2768.82, with the increase coming from Goldsmith Concert Fund. The motion was seconded by Kate Snow and passed unanimously.
A motion to add Claus Makowka to the Fidelity Account so there are two people able to move funds was made by Kyle Gracey and seconded by Bob Mitchell. Previously it was just Ward Kelsey. It passed unanimously.
Rev. Kate and Karen Rutigliano presented a proposal to make Share the Plate weekly, instead of monthly, with one charity or organization per month (total of 12). These will include six internal groups and six external charities nominated and voted on by the congregation. This would be shared at 50% for the charities and 50% to the operating fund weekly instead of once a month. Nick Izzo moved to accept the proposal, which was seconded by Chris Milcarek and carried with a majority vote.
A proposal for an LED lighting upgrade that had the unanimous support of the Building Committee was presented and moved by Bob Mitchell. Although there are significant upfront costs, which will be supported by capital-restricted funds, the savings will be substantial over time. The motion was seconded by Chris Milcarek and passed unanimously.
Our First Unitarian Church Art Committee is back at work and has organized a series of shows for the fall. The first show will be a show of quilts made by the UU Quilters. Expect the Undercroft Gallery to be a very colorful space during September. The show will be ready for viewing after service on Sunday, September 4. Many of the quilts will be for sale, so if there is a quilt you would like to have, you can probably purchase it. The Quilters made three quilts collaboratively, and the total proceeds from those three quilts will go to the church. The quilts will hang through the last Sunday in September. The Quilters are also planning a pop-up quilt sale in the yard one Sunday during the month. More information will be coming about the pop-up sale. A Member Art Show will happen in October. We hope you answer our call to all artists.
The Art Committee looks forward to seeing you in the Undercroft after service (or before). There are HEPA filters in the Undercroft, and we are arranging that they are turned on during possible viewing times to have another layer of health safety in place.
Information about upcoming events will be included on a timely basis. If you have questions, please get in touch with Cicely Moultrie, Communications Coordinator, at cmoultrie@first-unitarian-pgh.org.
