Getting to Know the Women of WIIT
What was your first job?

I took a summer job working for a firm that conducted traffic surveys and my job was to spend days at the corner of a street and tally the number of cars and pedestrians using a specific intersection. It was a very unpleasant experience but it did prove to be a great incentive to stay in school and find a career I would enjoy.

How did you get your start working in trade?

After a few years of practicing bankruptcy and insolvency law in a firm in Montréal, I decided that I wanted to work on international issues and I went back to school to complete a master’s in international relations. During that time, I did an internship at the Canadian Mission to the EU in Brussels and worked on various trade and agriculture issues, which I really enjoyed. That experience led to a career at Global Affairs Canada and I have been working in the area of trade law and policy ever since.

What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in your career?

Even if it is sometimes daunting to take on a new professional challenge, all of your past experience will help you adapt and grow into the new role.

What’s your favorite travel destination?

Anywhere where I can find good food and be close to the water. San Sebastian, the Greek islands and also our great North American coastlines fall in that category.
Introducing WIIT Programming!
Western Hemisphere

The Western Hemisphere Program Section organizes events to foster dialogue on a range of issues impacting trade and investment in the Americas, including tax and tech policy, supply chain issues, e-commerce, disinformation and the regulation of online platforms, corporate social responsibility initiatives, trade negotiations, and political dynamics. Over the coming year, the team will shed light on the rapidly changing political and economic dynamics in the hemisphere, as nations continue to struggle with the socio-economic challenges brought by the global pandemic and geopolitical uncertainties. The committee coordinates high-level panel discussions and brownbag lunches featuring prominent issue experts on a variety of topics including, but not limited to:
  • General Elections in major markets
  • USMCA enforcement
  • Future of Mercosur
  • Biden Administration policy towards the region
  • Intersection of social media, politics and public policy
  • Tech policy developments in the region (i.e.: data privacy, artificial intelligence, etc.)
Section co-chairs:
Europe, Russia and the Arctic

The Europe, Russia, & Arctic Program Section focuses on trade, development and policy issues as well as transatlantic cooperation between the United States and Europe. The commercial and geostrategic relationship between the two economies is unparalleled in its size and scope with the United States and Europe each being the other’s largest trade and investment partners. Traditionally the section focused on Europe, but this year we look forward to offering programming on emerging trade issues in Russia and the Arctic.

Past events included:
  1. Programing with European Officials and visiting European Commission Officials
  2. Events with European Embassies
  3. Trade topics that impact the transatlantic relationship
Section co-chairs:
Multilateral Institutions

The Multilateral Institutions Program Section seeks to promote understanding and awareness of key trade and economic developments within the context of global multilateral institutions such as the WTO, OECD, IMF, and UN, as well as those under the auspices of regional organizations. On August 9th, WIIT held an in-person event on the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity that was co-hosted by the Multilateral Institutions and Asia-Pacific program sections.
