Dear <<First Name>> ~

For me, participating in a election campaign boils down to showing up: being present, listening, having real conversations, offering ideas—always grounding action in basic democratic values of responsiveness, inclusion, transparency, and accountability. I believe in showing up and meeting people where they are. As a result, I've gotten to know so many wonderful people in our community—advocates, strategists, organizers, quiet leaders who are doing the hard work of taking care of our neighbors. 

This is the secret sauce, the antidote to despair brought on by the relentless onslaught of bad news, the anxiety about losing our democracy, the endless injustices. I am heartened, I feel hope, because every day I see others who are showing up with love and determination. Mr. Rogers said "Look for the helpers!" and he was right; if you look, you'll find them everywhere. They show up and they inspire.

I bet you do, too.



This coming Saturday, August 27, we'll be enjoying the East End/Valley Street Community Heritage Festival. Join us for two canvassing opportunities, from 12:30 to 2:30pm, and from 5:30-7:30pm. We'll meet up by the MLK Jr. Statue, have some campaign literature to share, and then fan out to experience the festival and talk to our neighbors!
