Faculty Relations Corner: I Just Got Here, Now What?
 
Dear Faculty Relations: I was beyond excited when I received a job offer for a tenure-track faculty position here at CU last winter. It was my top choice, the culmination of years of work, the entry point to my dream career, and the perfect motivator for completing my dissertation on time! Well, I've moved my family across the country; I'm trying to manage all the logistics of the move, settling in, and starting 1) a new job and 2) my first (and hopefully for the foreseeable future) tenure-track position. I'm so overwhelmed; honestly, I'm not even sure what my questions are!  – I'm Here, Now What?

for Faculty throughout the Academic Year. All Faculty are welcome!

Join a Writing Group This Fall!  

OFA is organizing 8-week writing groups of 3 to 6 members to support your writing process. Writing groups for faculty can take several different forms with varied goals, including accountability for getting writing done; a shared time for writing; a space for sharing work and receiving feedback; and/or space to talk about the writing process and share tips, advice, and emotional/ psychosocial support around difficulties with the writing process. 

If you are interested in joining a writing group this semester, fill out this form by Friday, September 9.

Thriving at CU: New Faculty Series

A monthly workshop series for tenure- and instructor-track faculty who are in their first three years at CU Boulder. Meet other new faculty and get your questions answered!  

Participation in at least 8 Thriving at CU sessions over your first three years will earn you a faculty development certificate. 

Upcoming Thriving at CU events: 

  • Thriving in the First Year: What I Wish I Had Known: Faculty will share advice based on their experiences from their first years here. Simultaneous, separate sessions will be held for tenure-track and teaching/clinical track faculty. 

  • Thriving in the Classroom: Handling Challenges: A panel of experts will share tips for instruction around common teaching dilemmas.

LEAP Introductory Leadership Workshop   

Announcing the 2023 LEAP Introductory Leadership Workshops. These workshops provide pre-tenure faculty with information about the comprehensive review and tenure processes; allow you to meet with campus leaders; discuss the state of the campus; and introduce you to various campus services which may help you navigate your career and develop leadership and pedagogy skills.

Request for Proposals: NCFDD Faculty Success Grants 

The Office of Faculty Affairs invites applications from faculty interested in participating in the Faculty Success Program (FSP) sponsored by the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD). FSP is a twelve-week program that promotes evidence-based and humanizing strategies for writing productively; provides access to a specialized platform for tracking activities, time, and goal attainment; offers weekly individualized coaching; and places participants in small peer working groups that feature online interaction and weekly conference calls.

Sabbatical Application Process - Dos and Don'ts 

Are you planning on a sabbatical in the near future? You need to attend this workshop! Carolyn Tir, Faculty Personnel Director, Office of Faculty Affairs will walk us through the sabbatical application process, including deadlines, planning for it, the approval process, what to include on the application, and tips and advice on filling the forms along with some frequently asked questions (FAQs).

Distinguished Professor Seminar Series
with Professor David Korevaar & Colleagues 

The University of Colorado Retired Faculty Association is proud to present the 16th and first in-person presentation of the Distinguished Professor Seminar Series with Distinguished Professor David Korevaar.
Professor Korevaar, from the College of Music, will perform two large-scale works by Cécile Chaminade as well as discuss her career and trajectory from fame to obscurity.
Accompanied by Charles Wetherbee, violin and Meta Weiss, cello.

Congratulations to the New Faculty Leadership Institute (FLI) Cohort 

FLI is a program and space for faculty across the University of Colorado Boulder campus to work together to break down barriers and build community, collaboration, and connectedness across schools, programs, and departments. Announcing this year’s cohort of 16 faculty who will have the opportunity to engage in targeted discussions with campus leaders on current campus issues and to build leadership skills. 

A Warm Welcome to Our New Faculty Fellow
for Teaching/Clinical Faculty Development

We are excited to announce a new Faculty Fellow to serve Teaching and Clinical Professors. 
Lev Szentkirályi organizes and facilitates workshops tailored to their needs and interests and works to build community among these faculty through such initiatives as creating a new Community of Practice. Lev is an Assistant Teaching Professor of Social Responsibility and Sustainability in Leeds and the College’s Faculty Director for Global Initiatives.

Office of Institutional Equity
and Compliance 

The general public, including the CU Boulder community, can comment on newly proposed Title IX regulations that the CU system office updated in June. Send comments directly to the U.S. Department of Education by 9/12. Comments are public and will be posted online by the DOE.  

Throughout this year, the OIEC will provide engagement opportunities for students, staff, faculty, and other campus leaders and stakeholders to review the proposed regulations for the systemwide Title IX working group.

Faculty Relations offers individualized, confidential consultations free of charge to ALL faculty.
We can consult on specific aspects of your workplace, including but not limited to managing professional relationships and conflict resolution. We can coach you and work with you
