[Albany Alert] Governor Hochul Announces Launch of Historic $150 Million Expansion of Tuition Assistance Program to Part-Time Students
Last week, Governor Hochul announced the launch of the $150 million expansion of New York State's Tuition Assistance Program, which will now provide TAP to approximately 75,000 additional students who are pursuing their degree part-time. Part-time CUNY and SUNY students can now apply for state tuition assistance and the aid is also available to students attending private, nonprofit colleges. Full-time TAP awards can be up to $5,665 annually for a full-time student; part-time TAP will be available on a pro-rated basis to eligible students taking six to 11 credits per semester with no full-time prerequisite.
[Funding Opportunity] Youth Service Capacity-Building Grants from the William T. Grant Foundation
NYC youth-serving nonprofits are invited to apply for a $60,000 Youth Service Capacity-Building Grants from the William T. Grant Foundation to support projects to strengthen NYC nonprofits that serve youth ages 5-25. These grants provide general operating support to help small nonprofits address capacity-building needs.
Eligible youth-serving, nonprofit organizations must meet at least one of the following criteria related to the Foundation’s focus on reducing inequality in youth outcomes:
Currently provide direct youth services in one of the eleven community districts identified as having the highest community risk to child well-being by the Citizen’s Committee for Children, or;
Have well-defined existing programming tailored specifically to Mexican-descent or LGBTQ youth, or;
Have leaders (Executive Director or CEO) who are people of color and/or members of the LGBTQ community.

Pratt Institute’s Design Corps
Design Corps — which recently refreshed NYCETC’s identity and designed its 2021 Impact Report — is currently accepting applications for its Fall 2022 client list. Design Corps mission is to provide socially or environmentally conscious organizations with quality pro-bono design services, while exposing Pratt Communications Design students to professional experience and the rewards of using their skills in the service of a good cause. Operating as a design firm under the direction of experienced faculty, students present design options, provide finished files and monitor production of final pieces for these clients. Companies and organizations are encouraged to apply that:
Have existing branding or collateral needs (print or digital)
Can dedicate time for at least 4 in-person or Zoom meetings over the 15-week semester and provide feedback and content in a timely manner

Founded in 2021, I Was 16 Yesterday Wellness Center improves the health, wellness and quality of life for young adults between the ages of 16-24. Their services include job placement, paid internships, training opportunities, meditation programming, and mental health referrals. With over 36 years experience working with youth and young adults, Ms. Pawley and The Center provides an individualized approach, and a safe environment for young adults where they are valued, seen, and heard.

As part of their UX Partnership Program, General Assembly is seeking to pair their fellows with small companies and non-profit organizations that need help with UX research and design. Companies and organizations that meet the following criteria are encouraged to apply:
An existing digital product that has a clear goal and a specific usability problem to solve, or plans to develop an MVP for their digital product
An existing user/customer base and can provide 10-15 users who are willing to participate in interviews
Development team/implementation plans to make the students’ designs come to life
Availability 3-5 hours a week to communicate as needed with students throughout the project

Manhattan Educational Opportunity Center (Manhattan EOC) The Manhattan EOC is recruiting for their Fall 2022 Academic and Career Training programs. Their FREE programs encourage and support adults to learn English, earn their High School Equivalency diploma, and prepare for college or gain employment.
Their robust, stackable Career Training programs provide state or national certifications to help build careers. They include Certified EKG Training, Certified Phlebotomy Training, Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Electronic Health Records and Certified Medical Administrative Assistant, where students prepare for employment in a variety of clerical support positions within the healthcare industry. Security Officer Training and OSHA are also offered. Job placement assistance is available to students.
Manhattan EOC also offers programs at CUNY in the Heights, including English for Speakers of Other Languages, Security Officer Training and OSHA. Applicants are encouraged to apply online as well as attend a Virtual Admissions Session to get an overview of the programs and the enrollment process.

Culinary Training with Hot Bread Kitchen: Women interested in the food business are invited to apply to this program in partnership with Hot Bread Kitchen. Interested applicants should be 18+ and authorized to work in the United States. Classes begin in September and will be in-person at Cypress Hills East New York Community Center located at 276 Chestnut Street, Brooklyn, NY from Monday to Friday 6-9 PM. Pursuit The Pursuit Fellowship is a one-year intensive training that prepares students (Fellows) to get their first full-time software engineering role. Pursuit Fellows begin their journey with a year of high-quality, intensive, and supportive training, followed by three years of career development once they’ve been hired. Pursuit also works directly with companies to secure hiring commitments, which results in equitable employment practices, improved workplace culture, and on-the-job support. Fellows currently work at over 200 leading companies including Peloton, Union Square Ventures, Spotify, Citi, Uber, and many more.

Hospitality Pathways is recruiting for their next cohort starting this fall. Dedicated to training the next generation of hospitality professionals, Hospitality Pathways provides a stipend for their training program, and equip students for all guest-facing restaurant positions. Students learn both the hard and soft skills needed in the hospitality industry today: everything from steps of service and how to carry a drinks tray to time management and conflict resolution.
Project Renewal Project Renewal is actively recruiting for the following programs:

Assisted Competitive Employment Program – individualized job placement and support program for adults with mental health diagnosis.

The Data School Applications are now open for The Data School, The Information Lab’s fully paid trainee consulting program in NYC. StreetWise Partners Mentorship Program

Department of Veterans Affairs
The Department of Veterans Affairs has launched Veteran Rapid Retraining Assistance Program (VRRAP) as part of its continued effort to support Veterans seeking retraining and economic opportunities in response to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. VRRAP provides up to 12 months of tuition, fee, and monthly housing allowance payments, based on Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits, to qualifying Veterans seeking training for employment in a high-demand occupation. Additionally, Veterans may access the New York State Veteran Tuition Award Program (VTAP). Through VTAP, any Combat Veteran who is a New York State resident and has been honorably discharged from the military can remit funding at the SUNY tuition rate to attend eight semesters of undergraduate study, six semesters of graduate study or four semester-equivalents of vocational training. NYC's Department for the Aging
NYC's Department for the Aging is seeking older adults to enroll in their Senior Community Services Employment Program (SCSEP). Through SCSEP, older adults are paid $15 p/h for 15-20 hours a week for participating in job readiness workshops, technology/occupational skills training, hands-on work experience, career coaching, and job placement assistance. Areas of skills training include: Administrative/Clerical, Food Protection, Home Health Aide (HHA), Personal Care Aide (PCA), and Security. NeON Works
NeON Works engages young adults in paid career exploration and professional development and provides opportunities for educational attainment, vocational training and credentialing, internship connections, and job placement. The program primarily serves young people ages 16-24, with some flexibility for older or younger individuals. Participants can be in or out of school. Any young person in NYC who is on probation is encouraged to join, and NeON Works is also open to all young people who live in the neighborhoods where NeONs are based: Bed-Stuy, Brownsville, East New York, Harlem, Jamaica, Rockaway, South Bronx, and Staten Island. Solar One
Solar One’s Green Workforce Program has an established history of training priority populations and disadvantaged individuals who participate in New York City’s workforce organization programs, and has successfully delivered training in energy efficiency, renewable energy and the building trades to over 4,000 un- and under-employed individuals since 2009. Its primary focuses are in green construction (including carpentry, electrical and plumbing), green building operations and maintenance, solar PV installation and numerous nationally recognized certification courses, such as: GPRO Operations and Maintenance and GPRO Electrical, NABCEP Solar PV Associate, BPI Multifamily Building Operator, EPA Lead RRP, OSHA 30 and NYC Department of Buildings Site Safety Training. These classes are all tied to renewable energy, green building operations and maintenance, and energy efficiency.
