In an era of quick fixes, has efficiency become a lost art?

I’ve noticed with each generation there is an increasing desire to get things done and to get it done NOW! Not only do we want to get things done quickly, we also want the instant gratification that comes with getting it done.

Have you ever been so hungry that instead of cooking you bought restaurant food, something quick and easy that may satisfy your hunger but was less than desirable? For those who know how to make their way around a kitchen and can whip up a tasty meal, this can be highly disappointing. I don’t know about you but I don’t want to have to choose between flavor and fulfillment when it comes to eating or quality and getting it done when it comes to living!

Don’t short-change yourselves because you want to hurry and satisfy your appetite for success, influence, or wealth. Are you not filling your life with things of quality that can not be rushed through, such as having peace of mind,  moments of rest, and joy?  The rush of life can leave us feeling empty and void of fulfillment. Are you wondering what any of this has to do with efficiency? Well, let me let you in on a little secret, efficiency is not just about doing what it takes to get what you want or need. Efficiency requires cohesiveness between all areas of your life in order to really live a fulfilled life.

When any area of your life is lacking, all areas suffer the consequences. If you lack sleep, then you affect your ability to make sound decisions. If you are not taking care of your mental and emotional health, then you may start noticing yourself being easily agitated and withdrawn, which can have an effect on your relationships. If you are neglecting your physical well-being by not eating healthy foods, not exercising or seeing a physician on a regular basis, then you are minimizing your chances of living long enough to reap the benefits of all the hard work you are putting in.

Efficiency is about seeing the bigger picture and taking the time to make sure that every area of your life is being impacted in the best way possible by your decisions.
