What is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome?

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a disorder of the endocrine system which causes the growth of small, fluid-filled sacs on the ovaries. It can cause a range of symptoms which include menstrual cycle abnormalities, weight gain, and elevated androgen levels, as well as chronic fatigue and pelvic pain. Its exact causes are not fully understood, but PCOS's risk factors include infertility, high levels of stress, and having a relative who has had the disorder. This is a quite common disorder, affecting roughly 20% of women who are of reproductive age. There is no known cure for polycystic ovarian syndrome, but our doctors have had success treating its symptoms through methodologies including diet and lifestyle changes as well as advanced approaches such as pelvic floor trigger point injections. Meet Dr. David Park
Our Newest Physiatrist at Englewood, NJ

WHY DID YOU BECOME A PHYSIATRIST?

I’m interested in the crossover between rehabilitation, function, and biomechanics which led me to discover physiatry and pursue it as a career. I saw how much of an impact I could make in pain management from a functional perspective so I decided to do a fellowship to advance my interventional skills.

WHAT IS YOUR APPROACH TO TREATMENT?

I take an individualistic approach to patients and systematically walk through the different treatment options, all while building a firm foundation of trust and mutual understanding. I help patients attain a better quality of life and that starts with creating clear goals and expectations grounded in real functional improvement.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB?

My favorite part of my job is just getting to know people on a genuine level and hear their stories. This is a critical part of what I do and that matters a lot to me. What’s something you would like people to know about pelvic health? I’d like people to know that there are treatments out there that can help you get better. It’s unfortunate that many of these patients don’t see providers who know enough about how to treat their pain–or worse–that it’s all in their head.
