ADVOCATING FOR BUSINESS

Inflation is Creating a "Perfect Storm" of Challenges for Small Business Owners

Although inflation levels are showing signs of leveling-off, small businesses are still facing steep challenges and remain uncertain about the economy.

While the consumer price index saw prices fall slightly in the month of July, inflation remains a 40-year high. The latest U.S. Chamber Metlife small business index revealed that inflation is the top concern for business owners right now. Nearly 7 in 10 say they raised prices to cope with rising input costs.

The U.S. Chamber spoke with four small businesses across different industries and regions of the country on how they are handling the impacts of inflation. To read about them, click below.

SHAPING OUR FUTURE WORKFORCE

Join Employers and Educators September 1 for the Annual Hawaii Work-Based Learning Convening

Work-Based Learning (WBL) continues to be a need for educators and young leaders around the state. Hawaii is seeing continued growth in the number of WBL opportunities for learners across the state. We have seen great examples of WBL models from industry partners who embrace WBL as a strategic way to prepare a new generation of talent for the future of work.

We invite all employers to attend this year's virtual Work-Based Learning Convening on Thursday, September 1 from 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM hosted by Hawaii P20 Partnerships for Education and the Chamber.

The convening will showcase an employer post-secondary internship, ask-an-educator panel, Sector Partnerships session and more! Sessions are an opportunity to learn how your organization can get involved with our local educators to support WBL opportunities for our young leaders, focusing on workforce planning, talent acquisition and talent development.

If you have any questions on the WBL convening or work-based learning, please send us an email.
