STUDIO NEWS

Though my studio renovations were completed before Christmas, it finally feels as though I've settled in. The furniture has been rearranged several times and pieces borrowed from other parts of our home, but I did stumble upon a small antique farmhouse table at Where on Earth Antiques in town and it's absolutely perfect! I find that it's wide and deep enough without being too much of each. And I love vintage pieces as they seem to come with a lovely feeling, which is wonderful in the studio.
Summertime
I spent a soul-refreshing week in the Okanagan, painting and visiting with a dear friend. It's been too long since I've spent quality time with several people that mean the most to me. As I worked in my sketchbook, I realized why watercolours have become such an important part of my transition process this year...first of all for the convenience, also for the vibrancy of the newer paints, and, finally, for the transparent layers. In the past 5-7 years I've begun incorporating fluid mediums to my acrylics so that I get those transparent layers so this transition seems to be quite natural. The interesting thing is that I tend to transition in my work about every 5-7 years, whether that is medium, subject matter or size of substrate. I've also managed to reduce the amount of supplies I'm using because of the watercolour pans so it's been very easy to travel with...My Joan of Art primary tin has been lovely to throw into my purse or waist pack with a small watercolour sketchbook, the Art of Soil paints were gifted by my children a couple of years ago, the Jane Davenport tin has been used for many, many years (for camping trips & for working with children), and, finally, the White Nights tin is filled with Derwent Inktense #01 (they set once dried, unlike many watercolours), Daniel Smith and Winsor + Newton. I filled the last two myself but what a mess! And so staining. I think I'll stick with pan purchases to refill in the future. It's a larger colour palette so it has been nice for experiments in the studio.

WANTED :)
I'm still looking for a few more women for the 'Woman's Work' project. If you are interested in learning more about each of these amazing women and would like to contribute or know of someone who would, please visit my 'Woman's Work' portfolio page here and click on each image to read more. I need a photo (or 2) along with a few sentences/paragraph about what you do as I want to highlight the value of women's contributions.
The Business of Art

When I started out on this creative journey it was difficult to find information & support as an artist. I read a lot, talked to many professional Artists & Gallery Directors, tried many different things, and I think I've finally found my artistic 'sweet spot' both in my paintings and in my creative career. One thing that is important to me is to make sharing my experience accessible and also simple & straight forward...what I wished I had when I was starting out. The following 12 modules are included:

1. Finding inspiration
2. Tips & Tools
3. Setting up a studio
4. Creative exercises
5. Finding your (art) family
6. Creating an artistic career
7. Documenting & pricing artwork
8. Social media & the web
9. Researching & submitting proposals
10. Exhibiting work
11. Connecting with galleries
12. Suggested reading (more inspiration)

I have updated the online courses to include ten downloadable workshops along with a bundle that includes online access as downloads can be rather long. Plus, I've also kept the 20% sumemr discount on individual courses and added a 50% discount on the workshop bundle which will continue until the end of September. They are available on my website under 'eCourses' here.
WINNER!
CONGRATULATIONS PERRY!
It was exciting to Champion this book which was so interesting...almost dystopian but also felt very relevant to our world today. It begins with the disappearance of gifted young children and considers the problem of doing something bad to do something good (Oscar Wilde).

Can't wait for book two :)
